Clerk Joan Schmitz reported on the results of a visit from the DNR. The city will need to do a better job of accounting for its water; currently, it is losing around 19% of its water monthly. The DNR frowns on water losses of over 10% per month. The city has been in the process of going through its water system and will meter the Fire Department. This will not cost the Fire Department anything, but the city still needs to document water use. Another change that will have to be made is that the city will need to switch customer meters every 10 years. The city will check to see if they can refurbish their water meters so that they will not have to pay so much to buy new meters.
The water tower valve was acting up; the city will bring in David Cassidy to inspect the problem.
The DNR also wanted the city to flush their hydrants and then do tests on them.
The Census Bureau reported Parnell lost six people from their 2000 census.
The City of Grant City is rewriting their contract with Parnell, which purchases water from Grant City. It will not cost Parnell any additional money.
Work on potholes was discussed. The street in front of St. Joseph's Catholic Church was full of large potholes and there were several smaller ones all over town. Council members lined up work to fix those potholes.
Since the water was out for the old City Hall, the April election will have to be held somewhere else.
The city will bid out mowing for this year and open up bids in April.
