Nick Adcock Wins USATF Combined Events Championship

Nick Adcock, 22 years old and former 5 time All American MU Tiger became the youngest athlete to ever win the USA Track & Field Combined Events Championship at the University of Indiana, Bloomington, IN on March 6, 2011. This was the 26th year for the event.

Adcock competed against seven other athletes ranging in age from 23 to 28. Day one consisted of 4 events, 60 meter dash in which Adcock ran in 7.17, long jump 22' 8 & 1/2", shot put 45' 1 & 1/2 " and ending with high jump 6' 5 & 1/2 " ending the day with a score of 3,107 and setting in 4th place.

Adcock, determined to win the championship, started day two with the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 just .04 of a second behind Jake Arnold (Asics), who had won the last 3 years and was favored to win this years meet; next was pole vault 15' 5", which moved him up to 2nd place. It came down to the last event, the 1,000 meter run, to determine the top three positions between Patrick Woods, Nick Adcock and Chris Helwick. Adcock needed to cross the finish line 8 seconds ahead of Woods to win the title; Adcock beat Woods by 9.33 seconds and put him ahead of Woods by 11 points with the final winning score of 5711.

Adcock is the Son of Gary & Sue Adcock, Kansas City, MO, and grandson of Galen & Betty Ruckman, Grant City, MO, and Carl & Virginia Adcock, Bethany, MO
