Area Courthouse, Police, and Crime Reports for April 10th, 2024

On April 3rd, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Brandon Cornelius (39) of King City alleging Kidnapping (Felony) and Domestic Assault (Felony). Bond was denied. 

On April 3rd, Harrison County Prosecutor Alex Van Zandt filed charges against Wyatt Starmer (26) of Martinsville alleging DWI (.167% Blood Alcohol Content) and Speeding (78 mph). 

On April 3rd, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Brewster Pepper (39) of Ravenwood alleging DWI (Felony), Driving While Revoked, Speeding (72 mph), and Driving on Left Side when View Obstructed by Hill. Bond was set at $10,000, cash or corporate surety.

On April 3rd, Bryant Elder (35) of Princeton pleaded guilty in Harrison County Associate Circuit Court to an amended charge of Littering and was sentenced by Judge Jay Hemenway to 21 days in jail with credit for time served.

On April 4th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Tyler O’Neal (31) of St. Joseph alleging DWI (.234% Blood Alcohol Content) and Speeding (72 mph). 

On April 4th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Joshua Lyons (34) of Glenwood (MO) alleging Stealing (Felony), Tampering with Motor Vehicle (Felony), and Possession of Methamphetamine (Felony). Bond was set at $50,000, cash or corporate surety. An affidavit from the Maryville Police Department alleges the defendant stole a cell phone and his dad’s pickup. 

On April 7th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Tina Dieter filed charges against Christopher Wilcox (39) of Maryville alleging Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Felony), DWI (Person Under 17 in Vehicle), and Careless & Imprudent Driving. Bond was set at $500, cash only.

On April 8th, Cody Burden (30) of Maryville pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Circuit Court to Trafficking Drugs (Felony) and Delivery of Controlled Substance (Felony). He was sentenced to 6 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge Corey Herron.

On April 8th, Sean Slaven (40) of Maryville pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Circuit Court to a charge of Delivery of Controlled Substance (Felony). He was sentenced by Judge Corey Herron to 5 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. 

On April 8th, Amber Dorman (45) of Savannah pleaded guilty in Nodaway County Circuit Court to a charge of Burglary (Felony) and was sentenced to 4 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections by Judge Corey Herron.

On April 8th, the Western Missouri US Attorney’s Office reported that James McGinnis (77) of St. Joseph pleaded guilty to charges of Making False Tax Statements and Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud. The US Attorney’s Office alleged the defendant co-founded Medical Cost Sharing, which purported to be a Christian ministry set up to help cover medical costs. They allegedly collected $8 million in member contributions, yet paid only 3.1% of health care claims and pocketed the rest. The defendant allegedly made false tax statements in 2019 by claiming he made no income in 2019 when in fact he made at least $140,881 that year.

On April 8th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Jonathan Kelley (26) of Bethany was northbound on Route 69 six miles southwest of Bethany when he traveled off the east side of the roadway, began sliding and skidding, and the driver overcorrected, sending the vehicle into a broadside. The vehicle crossed the center line, traveled off the west side, and struck an embankment, overturning. It then struck a tree. Kelley and two passengers received minor injuries and were taken to Harrison County Hospital.

On April 8th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Tony Davis Jr. (35) of St. Joseph alleging Failure to Register as Sex Offender (Felony), Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Speeding (72 mph), and Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $2,000, cash or corporate surety.

On April 9th, an Amber Alert came across the cell phone regarding a 2000 Mercedes SUV, Vermont license plate HFL-245, in Springfield (MO). 

On April 9th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Angel Burris (19) of Ridgeway in Gentry County on a Gentry County Warrant (Careless & Imprudent Driving). Bond was set at $265.50, cash only, posted by the defendant.

Charges listed are merely allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
