North Nodaway Accepts Resignation, Names Personnel

The North Nodaway School Board accepted the resignation of one person and named most of its staff for the 2024-25 school year.

The board accepted the resignation of Prent Eaton as the K-12 Counselor, effective at the conclusion of the current school year.

Hired or rehired for the upcoming school year were Mallory Chambers (Kindergarten), Catherine Auffert (High School Special Ed), Troy Nally (FFA, Ag), Victor West (Middle School Special Ed), Cody Bix (MS/HS Science), Emily Bix (MS/HS Language Arts), Cody Jenkins (MS/HS Physical Education), Danielle Johnson (2nd Grade), Sami Jackson (Title I), Stacey Meyer (K-12 Art), Cynthia Martin (K-12 Librarian), Jessica Hilsabeck (4th Grade), Michael McConkey (MS/HS Social Studies), Bethney Pedersen (MS/HS Language Arts), Audrey Trimble (3rd Grade), Nathan Schoonover (MS/HS Business), Jake Hoy (HS Math), Brylie Goff (1st Grade), Lindsey Byrd (5th Grade), Kyle Fitzgerald (K-12 Music), and Jess Greiman (K-12 Physical Education).

The board voted to raise $1,400 to the certified salary base, 30 cents to the non-certified base, and $1,400 to the administrators. Benefits include board paid health insurance, Medicare, retirement, and life insurance. Board paid health insurance will remain the same at $548.

The board approved the final school calendar for the upcoming school year. It will consist of 163 days and 1079.6 hours of instruction. The first day of school will be August 21st, and the tentative final day of school will be May 16th. This is subject to makeup days at the end of the school year. Commencement will be May 11th.

The board approved a revised Safe Return to School plan. The goal will be to remain open and provide a safe environment for students and staff members in future school years. This is a requirement of accepting and utilizing ESSER III money provided by the federal government through the Missouri Department of Education.

The path to reopening North Nodaway was based on the direction of public health authorities and the latest guidance of social distance measures. They were created in conjunction with CDC guidance. The school says the previous three years have shown that the district can put safety measures in place and keep students at school for most of the year in the event of a pandemic.

The school devised the plan based on stakeholder input and what was needed to mitigate concerns. A Safe Return to Schools Committee was responsible for preparing the new plan. The plan now outlines what the school may do should a pandemic happen in the future, as most activities associated with COVID-19 have returned to normal.

Serving on the Safe Return to School Committee were all seven members of the school board as well as Superintendent Chris Turpin, Principals Roger Johnson and Heather Townsend, Executive Assistant Tiffany Whipple, Counselor Prent Eaton, Nurse Linda Russell, Technology Coordinator Nicki Herndon, Teacher Cody Jenkins, and Custodian Bo Hansen.
