Worth County's boys won their sixth straight, getting a 77-32 win over North Nodaway Thursday as Jackson Runde got his 1,000th point. Needing 18 points to get his 1,000th point, he scored off a drive with 2:27 left to get over the hump and then added a 3-pointer for good measure. The game was over by halftime, and the tale of the tape said it all; Worth County won the rebounding battle 38-16, the assist battle 27-3, and the turnover battle 18-5.
The Tigers got some separation early, scoring the first 11 points of the game. Aydan Gladstone scored off a drive, Jackson Runde scored after Aydan got a steal off the press, Aydan Gladstone scored after Runde stole another inbounds pass off the press, Gladstone slashed to the basket, and Jackson Smith hit Tyler New for three from the top of the key to make it 11-0.
The Mustangs made a stand for the remainder of the first and part of the second, and Damian Dailey was one of the reasons, getting six points in the period. The deficit was still only 28-14 at the 4:26 mark of the second quarter after Damian Dailey's block set up a coast to coast look from Mason Richardson and his deadly left hand. But then the bottom dropped out after Jackson Smith scored a basket and then Grant Cameron went off, hitting back to back to back jacks to make it 39-14. Aydan Gladstone threw up a reverse layup over his head to make it 41-14 after Tyler New kept a possession alive after an offensive board. Aydan's uncle Will once did something similar, flipping a shot over his head from about eight feet out while playing pickup ball on the old basketball court where the helicopter landing pad and firehouse are now. Grant Cameron got loose in transition after Jackson Runde aired one out to make it 43-14 at the half.
Aydan Blackford hit a pair of free throws and Brice Trimble scored off a drive to make it 36-18, but then Jackson Runde began his assault on the 1,000 point park, knocking down consecutive threes. Aydan Gladstone scored off a drive, Runde grabbed an offensive board and threw it to Tyler New for an easy basket, and Jackson Runde cut inside to get to 998. Finally, Runde got a drive to the basket and later added a 3-pointer for good measure to get over the hump.
Levi Cassavaugh took over the fourth quarter, slashing to the rim at will and getting five in the period. Brent Harris missed a dunk attempt on the same basket that Drew Yarmer dunked in back in 2007 and Jase Latham failed to replicate Mason Hawk and Jason Parman's 100% three point mark, but Kolton Smith scored from inside and Zach Bounds scored his first ever basket as a Tiger, a 3-pointer in the closing seconds.
