Aydan Gladstone Gets Double Double as Tigers Win Senior Night Over Wolves

Aydan Gladstone got a double double Monday night as the Tigers turned back East Atchison 67-40 during Senior Night. He got 20 points and 12 boards as the Tigers used a big third quarter to pull away. Honored were boys basketball players Grant Cameron, Brent Harris, Jackson Smith, Jace Cousatte, Aydan Gladstone, Jackson Runde, and Zach Bounds; girls basketball player and cheerleader Justina Wimer; band members Lincoln Moore and Misty Helt; and cheerleader Cheyenne Fairchild. The late Aivry Griffin, who was a senior and who was on the cheer squad and in the band, was also honored. The girls lost 57-23.

Tyler New's drive put the Tigers in front 12-7 at the 2:06 mark, but the Wolves, who make their living off slashing to the rim, kicking it out for a three point shot, and pushing up the floor whenever possible, fought back as Braden Graves scored three straight to cut it to 12-10 after one. They moved into the lead to start the second quarter when Jarrett Spinnato's triple put them up 13-12.

But Worth County responded when Jackson Smith scored from inside off a pass from Aydan Gladstone and then back to back jacks from Grant Cameron put them up 20-13. Brayden Graves' 3-pointer cut it to 20-16, but then Aydan Gladstone got on the free throw line and went four for four to make it 24-16 again. Collin Hedlund's free throw cut it to 24-17, but Jackson Smith's 3-pointer and Tyler New's free throws put the Tigers up in double digits for the first time at 29-17.

East Atchison fought back as Titus Eaton's 3-pointer and Kaylin Merriweather's push cut it to 29-22, but then Aydan Gladstone's drive at the buzzer put Worth County up 31-22 at the half.

The Wolves came out in a trapping zone to start the second half, but Worth County had seen it the game before against Polo, and they were ready as Jackson Runde drove and converted a three point play to make it 34-22. Eaton hit a heavily contested shot to cut it to 10, but Worth County started driving at will, getting drives from Aydan Gladstone and Grant Cameron to make it 38-24. Kaylin Merriweather got loose in transition to cut it to 38-26 and East Atchison got a stop, but then Aydan Gladstone got a steal, got it to Runde, who fed Grant Cameron to jump start another run for the Tigers. Four straight from Gladstone made it 44-26 at the 3:16 mark.

Alex Erickson's guarded three cut it to 44-29, but Grant Cameron answered with one of his own and Aydan Gladstone got a steal to make it 20 at 49-29. Jarrett Spinnato's backdoor layup was answered by Tyler New's coast to coast layup to make it 51-31 after three.

East Atchison had a lot of fouls to give and they could afford to be very aggressive on defense, and they made a push to start the fourth quarter as Brayden Graves opened with a free throw. Aydan Gladstone's reverse layup was answered by Owen DeRosier's triple to cut it to 53-35 at the 6:28 mark. But Worth County restored order quickly as Jackson Smith answered with a 3-pointer of his own and Aydan Gladstone went coast to coast to make it 58-35. Graves hit another free throw, but drives by Tyler New put the Tigers up 62-36. Graves scored off a drive, but time was running out and both coaches subbed freely in the last two minutes. Levi Cassavaugh got a drive and Brent Harris hit a 3-pointer in the closing minutes.
