Obituary -- Derril C. Caldwell 1933-2016

Derril C. Caldwell, 83, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at his home, with his family at his side.

Derril was born on March 9, 1933, in Sheridan, MO. His parents were Maynard Stokley and Wilma May Caldwell. He moved to Maryville after graduating from Sheridan High School. He attended NWMSU in Maryville for 3+ years working toward a degree in Architecture.

On June 2, 1957, in Parnell, MO, Derril was united in marriage to Frankie Lou Spoonemore. She passed away on October 4, 2005.

Derril was a truck driver for Crouch Brothers for 25 years in Maryville. He then worked for McLean Trucking for several years in Maryville and Omaha, NE. He retired in 1998, after 10 years working for ABF Freight in St. Joseph, MO. He also enjoyed umpiring for many years in the NWMO area.

He proudly served his country in the US Army, from 1953 to 1955, stationed at Ft. Riley, KS, and Ft. Polk, LA.

Preceded him in death were his parents, his wife, Frankie, in 2005; an infant sister, Marcia Caldwell; brothers, Denzil, and Richard Caldwell; 2 grandsons, Steven Kyle Swalley and Derrick Charles McGuire; nephew, Craig Caldwell; and several brother and sister in laws.

He was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, former member of the Maryville Elks Club #760. He loved to play golf at Mozingo Golf Club and Tarkio Golf Club, and bowling at Bearcat Lanes.

He is survived by his 4 children, Deborah K. Haynes, Elkhorn, NE, Lorinda L. Caldwell, Maryville, MO, Christie L. (Dennis VanFosson) Swalley, Clarinda, IA, and Brian C. (Jessica) Caldwell, Houston, TX; siblings, Doug (Paula) Caldwell, Greenfield, IA, and Donna Sheer, Hayward, WI; 8 grandchildren, Adam W. Johnson, Abigail Johnson, Alex R. Johnson, Tara McGuire, Meggan McGuire, Jessi McGuire, Frankie Louise Caldwell, and Brady C. Caldwell; 5 great grandchildren, Gracie Kohlleppel, Paizley Olze, Taveyn McGuire, Melek McGuire, Hope Erickson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 5, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow at the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville. US Flag folding and presentation at the cemetery by members of the Missouri Military Honors Detail.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, August 4, 2016, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, or to the Oncology Department, Mosiac Life Care, St. Joseph, MO, and may be left at the funeral home.
