Richard, known as the county "Junk Man", was a man of MANY interests. He first and foremost loved to travel. He and Betty attended many musical festivals where he enjoyed hearing his wife sing and play with the different bands. Silver Dollar City was a favorite destination where they became a regular family member among the performers and crafters. Their travels expanded out to cover most of the U.S.A. , many times in the company of their children and grandchildren. What memories were made! He loved to read expanding his travels in this way and his knowledge in areas that benefited all those around him.
Especially did he love to talk about the history of Worth Co. and Grant City . He had a wealth of knowledge in this area. This continuing education allowed him to converse on almost any subject. He also helped so many in the community with mechanical questions. He was quick to offer assistance to the elderly as well as many projects that would benefit the county. Such as the rehabilitation of the court house that was about to close. The base of the courtyard memorial that he redesigned and layed himself and the 10,000.00$ dollars he donated to the county for the restoration of the courtroom after his auto auction in 2005.
Which brings us back to his junk--- The 2005 Auto Auction that shocked the county! Roads were blocked from the inflow of traffic. Hy-Vee was sold out of convenience food and drinks. More than 2000 people converged on Grant City from 37 states including Canada .
Now the remainder of his collection will be appreciated, maybe for the first time, by many others in his family as it will continue to support and care for the needs of his faithful wife.
With love we all say good bye to a very unique husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Grant City Senior Center .
The body has been donated to KU Medical Center for scientific research.
