King City Man Injured in Stanberry Accident

Donald Combe, 50, of King City received moderate injuries in a one vehicle accident near Stanberry Thursday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1999 International Dump Truck driven by Combe was southbound on Route F four miles east of Stanberry at around 3:00 pm when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. The vehicle came to rest in a cornfield facing west. Combe was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was taken to the Northwest Medical Center in Albany.

Collision at 169 and 136 Injures One

A collision at 169 and 136 injured one Thursday evening. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2007 Ford F250 driven by Shawn Johnson of St. Louis was turning from 169 into eastbound 136 when pulled into a path of a 2005 Toyota headed westbound on 136. The Toyota struck the F250 in the driver's side front. Both vehicles came to rest in the intersection. Johnson received minor injuries and was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Albany. Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Fatal Accident Near Stanberry

A fatal accident occurred Friday morning on 169 just south of Stanberry at around 7:25. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1994 Kenworth driven by Donald West of Albany was southbound on 169 when it crossed the center line, and off the east side of the roadway. The vehicle continued around 400 feet along 169 before entering a cornfield. The vehicle then traveled 900 feet into the cornfield before coming to rest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:36 that morning. He was transported to the Roberson-Polley Funeral Home.

Firefighter Killed in Line of Duty During Heavy Thunderstorms

A Fort Osage Firefighter was killed in the line of duty during heavy thunderstorms in the Kansas City area, the Examiner reports. Fort Osage Assistant Fire Chief Harold Hollingsworth was killed in the line of duty when he was responding to a structure fire and his vehicle left the road and hit a tree. The Northwest Missouri area received light rain and some thunder and lightning, but nothing severe. The most severe weather of last night went south through the Kansas City area. Possible severe thunderstorms are forecast for Tuesday night, followed by a drop in temperatures the next two days.

Accident at 46 & High Street Overturns Car

An accident at 46 & High Street overturned a car driven by Sarah (Taute) Hoff. A car driven by Ashley Farrell was westbound on 46 when she came over the hill just west of Hy-Vee and struck the car driven by Taute, who was in the intersection. The accident occurred Sunday evening. It was investigated by the Worth County Sheriff and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Accident Causes Serious Injury at Wilcox

An accident in Wilcox, between Maryville and Burlington Junction caused a serious injury last Monday night at around 11:15 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Chrysler Cruiser driven by Gregory Leslie (50) was northbound on 71 when it traveled off the right side of the roadway and traveled through a ditch when it began to overturn. The vehicle then struck a telephone pole and continued to overturn as the driver was ejected. The vehicle came to rest on the east side of the roadway facing southeast on its wheels. Leslie sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The cruiser received extensive damage and was towed from the scene.

Accident Leaves Two with Minor Injuries

An accident Thursday around 3:45 p.m. left two youths with minor injuries east of Maryville. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2004 Pontiac driven by Dianne Dennis (41) of Maryville was eastbound on 136 just east of Maryville when she slowed to make a left turn and was struck in the rear by a 2008 Chevy Pickup driven by Oral Lewis of Ravenwood. Two youths in the Dennis vehicle, Nickki Owens (14) and Megan Owens (11) received minor injuries in the accident and were taken to St. Francis Hospital. Neither of the drivers was injured. All were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The accident occurred in an area where there are frequent left turns into the various plants and businesses along the road. The speed limit for that stretch is 45 miles per hour and is strictly enforced by the Highway Patrol.

Three Killed in Hopkins Wreck

Three people were killed and four others injured in a one car accident 1/2 mile east of Hopkins on 246. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Chevy pickup driven by Scott Woods of Hopkins was eastbound and ran off the south side of the road. Woods overcorrected and then vehicle then went off the north side of the road. As the vehicle came back onto the road, it overturned, coming to rest on the south side of the roadway on its wheels and caught fire. All occupants of the vehicle were ejected. Chrystal Olerich, 18, of Lake View, IA was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:34 in the morning. Benjamin McIntyre, 22, of Hopkins, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Josh Bix, 21, of Hopkins, was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Sustaining serious injuries were Jordan Breeding, 19, of Hopkins and Samantha Weed, 18, of Bedford. Breeding was life-flighted to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Weed was taken to St. Francis Hospital and then life flighted to Omaha. Kaley Folkerts, 19, of Bedford and Scott Woods, 22, of Hopkins received minor injuries. Folkerts was transported to the St. Francis Hospital while Woods refused treatment at the scene.

Beggs Injured in Car-Tractor Accident

Mark Beggs of Guilford was injured in a car-tractor accident on Route 71 3 miles south of Route U Friday. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that a 2010 Chevy Malibu driven by Keenan Joiner of Maryville was northbound and struck a 1953 International Tractor driven by Beggs in the rear. The Malibu continued north and drove off the west side of the road where it came to rest in the median on its wheels facing north. The International traveled off the east side of the road onto the shoulder facing south on its wheels. Beggs received moderate injuries and was transported by Nodaway County Ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. Neither Joiner nor three passengers, Colton Mattson, Adam Thompson, or Chris Winans, were injured in the accident.

Four Injured in Two ATV Accidents Over Weekend

Four people were injured in two ATV accidents over the weekend. In the first one, the Missouri Highway Patrol reports that a 2004 Honda ATV driven by Jonathan Hughes of Grant City was southbound on Goldenrod Trail 7 miles west of Grant City. The Honday accelerated rapidly, causing the front wheels to come off the ground, ejecting Hughes and a passenger, Haley Ridler of Maryville. The Honda continued south and came to rest facing east on the roadway. Both the driver and passenger came to rest in the roadway. The accident happened around 5:35 p.m. in the evening. Ridler was seriously injured and was taken by the Worth County Ambulance to St. Francis in Maryville. Hughes received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

The second accident occured the same evening at around 8:35 p.m. on Jade Road 5 miles south of Grant City. The Patrol reports that a 2004 Honda ATV driven by Jesse Hale of Ridgeway was southbound on Jade Road when it traveled off the east side of the roadway into a ditch and overturned several times. Both occupants were ejected and came to rest in the ditch. The Honda came to rest in the ditch. Hale received minor injuries and refused medical attention. A passenger, Lisa Bounds, received serious injuries and was taken by Worth County Ambulance to the Northwest Medical Center in Albany.

Two Injured in Carmack Junction Wreck

Two people were injured in a wreck at Carmack Junction Tuesday at around 2:06 p.m. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that a 2001 International Truck Model 2545 driven by John Parmenter of Albany was southbound on 169 and a 2004 Harley Davidson driven by Mickey McCaray of St. Joe was eastbound on 136. The International failed to stop at the stop sign and continued through the intersection. The Harley struck the International on the passenger side. Parmenter was not wearing a safety device and was not injured in the accident. McCaray was wearing a safety device, received moderate injuries and was transported to the Northwest Medical Center by the Grand River Ambulance. A passenger of the motorcycle, Juarbe Mandalena of Independence, received serious injuries and was taken by Lifenet to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. The International received minor damage while the Harley was totaled.

The accident was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Transportation, the Gentry County Sheriff's Office, and the Albany Fire Department.

Anthony Ruckman Injured in Wreck South of Gentry

A Maryville man was injured in a wreck south of Gentry Monday, June 6th. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon driven by Anthony Ruckman of Maryville was southbound on 169 1 mile south of Grentry at around 12:40 a.m. when he ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected, and ran off the right side of the road and overturned. The vehicle came to rest on its top. Ruckman received moderate injuries and was taken to Northwest Medical Center by the Grand River Ambulance. Ruckman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The car was totaled in the wreck.

Five Teens Injured Near Savannah

Five teens were injured in a one car accident near Savannah. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2006 Chrysler Sebring driven by Kenneth Atkins, 16, of Rosendale was westbound on County Road 57 seven miles north of Savannah when it failed to make a turn, traveled off the west side of the roadway, and struck a tree. The Sebring came to rest on the west side of the roadway facing westbound. Atkins, the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries. Four passenger, Miles Aye, Hallie Dudley, Cody Edwards, and Shaina Pittman, all received moderate injuries. All were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. The Sebring was totalled in the accident.

School Bus Accident in Albany Seriously Injures One

A school bus accident in Albany seriously injured an Albany resident. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1992 GMC school bus drived by Brooke Kreatz, 26, of Chillicothe was westbound on 136 in Albany when a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan driven by Jeane Wilson, 78, of Albany, was turning and traveled into the oncoming path of the school bus. Impact occurred as the school bus struck the driver's side of the Town & Country. The bus received minor damage while the Town & Country was totalled. The school bus came to rest facing west in the roadway. The Town & Country came to rest facing east. The school bus was occupied by 9 students and 2 adults, none of whom were injured. Wilson was life-flighted to Heartland Regional Medical Center of St. Joseph. Both drivers were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Two People Seriously Injured in Skidmore Wreck

Two people were seriously injured in a one car accident east of Skidmore on Route V. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2008 Chevy Impala driven by Travis Carroll, 27, of Maryville was westbound on Route V when he drove off the north side of the roadway and struck a metal culvert at around Tuesday around 6:10 p.m. The Impala went airborne approximately 60 feet. When it struck the ground, it rolled over at least twice, coming to rest on its top facing west. Carroll was seriously injured and taken by Lifenet Air Ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A passenger, Sharla Goff, 39, of Burlington Junction, was taken by Ambulance to St. Francis in Maryville and later transferred by Lifenet Air Ambulance to Heartland Regional Medical Center. Neither was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The Impala was totalled.

Stephen Pickering Injured in Accident South of Grant City

One person received minor injuries in a one car accident Saturday south of Grant City. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1996 Plymouth Neon driven by Stephen Pickering of Gentry was southbound on 169 when he crossed over the center line, went off the east side of the roadway, and over an embankment, coming to rest facing south. Pickering was taken by the Worth County Ambulance to the Northwest Medical Center in Albany. Pickering was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Neon received minor damage and was towed from the scene.

Oliver Eighmy Involved in St. Joseph Accident

Oliver Eighmy of Grant City was involved in a St. Joseph accident Saturday at around 6:30 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1997 Oldsmobile driven by Eighmy was northbound on the Northbound I-29 exit ramp to 169. A 2008 Toyota driven by Harold Adams of St. Joseph was northbound on 169. Eighmy failed to stop for a red light and struck the Adams vehicle in the passenger side. The Eighmy vehicle came to rest off the east side and the Adams vehicle came to rest in the middle of the intersection. Both Adams and a passenger, Wanda Adams of St. Joseph received minor injuries in the accident. Eighmy was not injured. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage. The accident was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol

Parnell Woman Injured in Accident

A Parnell woman, Tracie Price, received minor injuries and her vehicle was totalled in a one car accident northeast of Maryville last Wednesday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Price was northbound on Mahogany Road when she lost control on the loose gravel. She overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel off the west side of the roadway. She struck a ditch and overturned, coming to rest in the middle of Mahogany Road on its top. She was taken by a private vehicle to St. Francis Hospital. The accident was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Nodaway County Sheriff's Department.

Tyler Lorentz Injured in Accident

Tyler Lorentz of Sheridan was injured in a one car accident east of Sheridan today (Thursday) in slick conditions shortly after 4:00 p.m. Lorentz was eastbound on 246 just before the intersection with 46 when he lost control of his truck and skidded off the north end of the road, hit an embankment, and overturned. Lorentz sustained arm and shoulder injuries. The accident was investigated by the Sheridan Fire Department and the Worth County Sheriff's Department.

Accident Claims Life of Parnell Man

A fatal accident claimed the life of a Parnell man Wednesday night at around 7:00 p.m. The Missouri Highway Patrol reports that a 1991 Ford Ranger driven by Emmett O’Riley, 66, of Parnell was northbound on Route E .3 of a mile south of Gaynor and a 2003 Chevy pickup driven by Cole Fisher, 18, of Sheridan, was southbound. The O’Riley vehicle traveled off the east side of the roadway into the ditch, overcorrected, and lost control.

The O’Riley vehicle returned to the roadway, traveled across the center line, and into the southbound lane and was struck by the Fisher vehicle. The O’Riley vehicle overturned coming to rest off the west side of the roadway on the driver’s side facing northeast. The Fisher vehicle traveled off the west side of the roadway and came to rest on its wheels in a field. O’Riley was pronounced dead by Deputy Coroner Steve Whittington. Fisher sustained minor injuries and refused treatment.
