Tiger Boys Finally Get Past Mound City to Win Districts, Girls Fourth; Baylie Busby Still Alive in High Jump

The Worth County boys, after having finished behind Mound City all year in track, finally got past them in districts to grab a title at West Platte Saturday. Worth County had 96, Mound City 90, Albany 80, Nodaway Valley 63, King City 58, East Atchison 55, Platte Valley 52, Stanberry 45, North Andrew 41, Rock Port 37, Winston 37, Stewartsville/Osborn 25, DeKalb 19, North Nodaway 12, Union Star 10, St. Joseph Christian 8, NEN 2, and South Holt 2.

For the girls, East Atchison ran away with the meet with 116 points. Rock Port had 83, Platte Valley 78, Worth County 67, Mound City 57, St. Joseph Christian 56, DeKalb 50, Albany 42, King City 31, South Holt 29, North Andrew 28, Nodaway Valley 26, Stanberry 20, NEN 9, North Nodaway 6, Union Star 6, Stewartsville/Osborn 5, and Winston 2.

For the girls, Riley Ridge was seventh in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 18.62. The Tigers qualified two in the 100. Emma Spencer was second with a personal best time of 12.98, four tenths of a second better than her previous best. Brooklyn Richardson was third with a personal best time of 13.22. ZeeAnna Gladstone got a personal best in the 200 with a time of 30.21. That was eight tenths of a second off her previous time. Katelyn Fletchall also got a personal best with a time of 31.57. 

The 4x100 team of Hailey Adwell, Brooklyn Richardson, Rayleigh Smith, and Emma Spencer won with a time of 51.74. That was almost a second better than their previous best time. 

Kara Staton was fifth in the Discus with a throw of 99 feet. Ali Brown was seventh with a throw of 92’3”. Riley Ridge was second in the High Jump with a height of 4’10¼”. Emma Spencer was eighth in the Long Jump with a jump of 14’½”. 

Eva Engel won the Pole Vault with a vault of 10’6”, her best performance since breaking her sister’s school record at Albany earlier this year. Kara-Jean Staton was fifth in the Shot Put with a throw of 32’8½”. ZeeAnna Gladstone got a personal best in the Triple Jump with a jump of 31’9½”. 

For the boys, Lucas Frisch was seventh in the 100 with a time of 12 seconds. John Galanakis was not ready to go home as he finished third in the 110 Hurdles with a time of 16.63, a personal best by six tenths of a second. He has steadily improved his time by two seconds this year. Brayden Combs finished eighth with a time of 19.86. Brayden Stevens was eighth in the 200 with a personal best time of 25.62. Brayden Murphy got a season best with a time of 27.66. 

Lucas Frisch was third in the 300 Hurdles with a personal best time of 44.18. He has shown steady improvement, knocking five seconds off his time during the course of the year. He lived to fight another day. Brayden Combs was eighth with a time of 49.41. 

Levi Cassavaugh won the 400 with a personal best time of 52.88. Ethan Frese was fifth with a time of 57.76, close to a personal best. 

The 4x100 team of Levi Cassavaugh, Brayden Stevens, John Galanakis, and Lucas Frisch was fourth with a personal best time of 46.89. The 4x200 team of Tyler New, John Galanakis, Landon Moser, and Levi Cassavaugh was third with a personal best time of 1:36.89. They have taken 11 seconds off their time since the start of the year. The 4x400 team of Lucas Frisch, Ethan Frese, Tyler New, and Levi Cassavaugh was second to Nodaway Valley after winning the Bill Gladstone Memorial, but did all one could ask them as they knocked almost four seconds off their time and finished with a time of 3:44.70. That was over 25 seconds better than their time at the start of the year.

Elias Alarcon was second in the Discus with a throw of 125 feet. Tyler New was third in the Javelin with a throw of 136’1”. Landon Moser was eighth in the Long Jump with a jump of 17’11½”. Brayden Combs was sixth in the Pole Vault and matched a personal best with a height of 9’¼”. 

After being stuck around 47 feet all year, Jase Latham broke a barrier and won the Shot Put, getting a personal best throw of 50’8”. Elias Alarcon also got a personal best, breaking the 40 foot barrier with a throw of 41’5¼”. Landon Moser got a personal best in the Triple Jump with a jump of 38’11¾”. That was good enough for second place. Tyler New did all one could ask of him, getting a personal best in the event with a jump of 37’10½”. It was just a little over two inches short of qualifying him for Sectionals as he finished fifth. Both Moser and New will be back for next year, giving the Tigers a formidable 1-2 punch in the Triple Jump if they work at it.

NEN

For the girls, Mylee Wilmes was sixth in the 200 with a time of 29.01 after getting a personal best time of 28.76 in the prelims. Dalanie Auffert was eighth in the Discus with a personal best throw of 89’3”. Baylie Busby qualified in the High Jump with a height of 4’7” and a fourth place finish. 

For the boys, Kyler Scadden was seventh in the Javelin with a throw of 111’6”. 

North Nodaway

The girls placed two in the 3200. Andrea Jenkins was fifth with a time of 15:20.55. Casey Wray was seventh with a time of 18:06.18. Wray got a personal best in the Shot Put with a throw of 24’7¾”. 

For the boys, Mason Richardson was eighth in the 100 with a time of 12.29. Jordan DeLeon got a personal best in the 300 Hurdles with a time of 50.13. He improved his time by almost three seconds this year. As a freshman, he will return. Owen Martin was eighth in the 400 with a time of 58.25. 

The 4x400 team of Owen Martin, Landon Parman, Aydan Blackford, and Mason Richardson was seventh with a time of 4:29.91. 

The Mustangs placed two in the Long Jump. Mason Richardson was fourth with a jump of 18’10¾. That was good enough to qualify him for Sectionals. Aydan Blackford was sixth with a jump of 18’7¾”. Both jumps were personal bests.
