Doyle Max Shafer was born March 24, 1935 in Ringgold County, Iowa to Deva (Fletchall) and Cecil Ferguson Shafer. He graduated from Redding High School.
On June 11, 1961 Doyle was united in marriage to Marilyn Marie (Roach) in the Assembly of God Church in Grant City, Missouri. To this union one daughter, Tresa Marie Owens and one son, Keith Albert Shafer. Doyle owned and operated his own heating and cooling businesses; Shafer’s Refrigeration, in Texas, for 25 years, and All Type Service, in Grant City, until he retired. He belonged to the Refrigeration Service Engineering Society and was very active with the Royal Rangers in the Katy, Texas Assembly of God Church.
Doyle served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Crossroads Assembly of God Church, in Grant City. He enjoyed working outside, tinkering on lawnmowers, creating stained glass pieces, and several other hobbies. Doyle was the most loving person and always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Doyle passed away on March 9, 2022 at the Leavenworth Veterans Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tresa and her husband Joe Owens, brother Cecil Veryle, and sister-in-law Linda Roach.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marilyn Shafer; son Keith Shafer; grandchildren Christopher (Angel) Burges, Ashley Burges, April (Tommy) Adams, Lauren (Robbie) Zanfardino and Justin Sloan; great-grandchildren Mason Ventura, Colton Ladd, Reagan Burges, Parker Adams, Izabell Shafer and Hunter Max Zanfardino; sister Linda Kay (Jack) Kirby; sister-in-law Trudy Shafer, brothers and sister in laws Richard (Wilma) Roach, Jerry (Ann) Roach, Ralph Roach, Carol (Allen) Fraley, Jeff (Jane) Roach and Debra (Ken) Wallace; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Pastor Len Green officiated. Cremation followed. Service with burial at a later date.
