Courthouse News for March 16th, 2022

On February 28th at approximately 11:18 am, Thomas Mussman was parked at Casey’s in Mount Ayr. The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department says Mussman backed into a Southern Iowa Trolley bus driven by Marvin Wallace. There were no injuries, and minor damage was done to the vehicles. 

On February 28th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Brandon Frey on a charge of DWI (Felony). Bond was set at $5,000, cash only, posted by the defendant.

On March 8th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Jonathan Chumbley on a charge of Criminal Mischief (Felony). Bond was set at $5,000, cash or corporate surety, with the defendant released on his own recognizance.

On March 8th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Erika Parkhurst (26) of Albany alleging 2 counts Stealing (Felony). Bond was set at $2,000, cash or corporate surety, posted by the defendant.

On March 9th, Northwest Mo Info reported that Bryant Hummel, a former teacher and coach at Kearney High School, pleaded guilty to one count of Harassment and was sentenced to two years probation. He must also relinquish his teaching certificate. 

On March 9th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Olin Slaughter (59) of Bethany alleging Child Abuse (Felony). 

On March 9th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Justin McQuinn (44) of Coffey alleging No Valid License (Felony) and No Insurance.

On March 9th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Jacob Butler (23) of Maryville alleging DWI and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

The Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department reports that on March 10, 2022 at approximately 3:30 pm, 33-year-old Ben Graham of Mount Ayr was traveling east on Highway 2. Graham lost control of the 2005 Chevy Trailblazer he was driving, while attempting to manually adjust the passenger side mirror. The vehicle entered the Dairy Sweet parking lot striking the Dairy Sweet building. The vehicle continued eastward hitting a pole before coming to rest in the old Jehovah Witness Church yard. There is an estimated $25,000 in damage to the Dairy Sweet building.

On March 10th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a 2004 GMC Canyon driven by Christopher Meringa (36) of Bethany was northbound on Route 13 at around 11:10 am when he traveled off the west side, continued down an embankment, and into a creek. Meringa received moderate injuries and was taken to Harrison County Community Hospital. Subsequently, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Meringa on charges of DWI and Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On March 10th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Daniel Holmblad (52) of Fairbault (MN) in Harrison County on a charge of DWI.

On March 10th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Sharon Monk (70) of St. Joseph alleging DWI and Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle.

On March 10th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Craig Mitchell (57) of Polo alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving, Failure to Stop, Failure to Yield, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

On March 10th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Thomas Affuso (41) of Kansas City alleging Domestic Assault (Felony). Bond was set at $10,000, cash or corporate surety.

On March 11th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Ryan Morse (23) of Harsen’s Island (MI) in Nodaway County on charges of Possession of Marijuana (Felony), two counts Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding.

On March 11th, the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship and the USDA confirmed a positive case of avian influenza in Taylor County in commercial layer chickens.

On March 12th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Karli Baker (27) of Des Moines in Harrison County on a charge of Speeding (122 mph).

Kevin Jungers, 33, of Lenox, was arrested at 316 S Brooks Street in Lenox, on March 12, 2022 by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle he was operating was stopped for expired registration and subsequently taken into custody for driving under suspension. Drug paraphernalia was located in plain view and a subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted. Jungers was released on a summons to appear in court before a Magistrate. 

On March 12th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Dustin Conover (22) of Maryville in Nodaway County on charges of DWI and Speeding.

Steven McMullen, 22, of Lenox, was arrested in the 1200 block of Tennessee Avenue, on March 13, 2022 by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department. The vehicle he was operating was stopped for speeding 65 in a 45 mile per hour zone. During the stop a search was conducted and a controlled substance was located. McMullen was taken into custody on charges of possession of a controlled substance, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.  McMullen was being held on $1,300 bond until seen before a Magistrate. 

On March 14th, the Maryville Forum reported that a fire broke out at an apartment on 124 West 3rd Street in Maryville. A man, woman, child, a dog, and two cats were rescued. The fire was contained to a sofa.

On March 14th, Sheridan fire units responded to two grass fires. The first was a planned burn south of town that got out of control during the afternoon. The second was east of town during the evening just north of 46.

On March 14th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Aubree Middendorf (24) of Bethany alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On March 14th, Gentry County Prosecutor Jessica Jones filed charges against Forest Buckman (32) of Gentry alleging Domestic Assault (Felony).

On March 14th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Jeremy Huntsman (44) of Grant City alleging No Valid License (Felony).

On March 14th, Special Prosecutor Tara Cluck filed charges against Thomas Borrego (58) of Milford (IL) in Nodaway County alleging Non-Support (Felony).

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
