Worth County's girls finally got over the hump against King City on their third try, getting a 39-27 win and riding the momentum of their Northwest Missouri Tournament win. Some teams have a letdown game after a big win, while some are able to build off such a win and show that it was no accident. Worth County, after a slow start, took the latter path, locking down on defense. King City, which needed overtime the night before to beat North Harrison by two, wore down as the game progressed as the Tigers took a double digit lead in the third quarter that they would not relinquish.
The Wildkats took the lead in the early going, getting a 9-7 lead in the first after Chloe Eiberger's putback in transition. But after Megan Cassavaugh took a charge on defense, the Tigers picked it up defensively, getting stops on eight out of their next nine defensive possessions to move into the lead. Victoria Washburn went backdoor to put King City up 11-7, but then Worth County, who had been missing a lot of shots up to that points, finally started seeing some shots fall and getting on the line as Braidy Hunt hit a 3-pointer and Jill Hardy hit two free throws to put them in front 12-11. Morgan Beagle hit one free throw on Worth County's next possession, missed the second, but Jill Hardy grabbed the offensive board and put it back in to make it 15-11.
Zoe Tunks hit a free throw to break the run, but Kynah Steele scored from inside after the Tigers kept a possession alive and Jill Hardy hit two free throws to make it 19-12. Hardy picked up her third foul and Kelcie Catlett drove and scored to make it 19-14, but Worth County got a steal from Braidy Hunt and a layup to make it 21-14 at the break, which sparked them for the second half.
The Tigers picked it up defensively in the third quarter, shutting down King City on eight straight defensive possessions as the lead continued to grow. EmiLee Brown hit a free throw, Morgan Beagle got an inside shot, and Jill Hardy scored four straight to make it 28-14 and force King City into a timeout.
King City fought their way back to within ten at 28-18 on their next two possessions as they made a push to get back into the game. Braidy Hunt countered with a 3-pointer, but then Morgan Beagle, their best rebounder, picked up her fourth foul trying to take a charge on defense, and King City crashed the boards hard in her absence, fighting back to within 31-21 at the start of the fourth. EmiLee Brown got a putback for Worth County, but Paisley Catlett countered with a drive to make it 33-23 again and King City got the ball back on defense.
But then Braidy Hunt took a charge on defense to deny King City's push to get it back under ten, and Worth County got nine straight stops on defense as they built their lead back up. Kynah Steele got loose in transition and Megan Cassavaugh hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key; Megan Cassavaugh hit a free throw to make it 39-23. King City made a frantic push in the last few seconds as Zoey Tunks scored four straight, but Worth County was able to dribble out the clock for the win.
Jill Hardy had 10 points for the Tigers. Braidy Hunt had 8, Megan Cassavaugh 7, Morgan Beagle 6, and EmiLee Brown and Kynah Steele 4 each.
EmiLee Brown had 9 boards. Megan Cassavaugh had 7, Kynah Steele 6, Morgan Beagle 5, Jill Hardy 4, and Braidy Hunt 2.

Braidy Hunt had 5 steals. Kynah Steele and Megan Cassavaugh had 2 each, and Jill Hardy, Morgan Beagle, and Liz Brown had 1.
