Colton Swalley Has Career Night as Bluejays Survive East Atchison

Colton Swalley keeps getting better every single game for the Northeast Nodaway Bluejay boys. One game after his fourth quarter 3-pointer helped propel Northeast past Stewartsville (Osborn) in the King City Tournament, he posted another career high, getting 12 points in the Bluejays' 51-36 win over East Atchison last Tuesday. He provided valuable minutes in the third quarter when Ben Boswell was out with foul trouble as the Bluejays withstood a Wolves rally in that period and pulled away for the win.

The game started off well for Northeast as they started off the game with nine straight stops as they built up an 8-0 lead. Ben Boswell and Auston Pride scored from inside, Dylan McIntyre scored on a drive, and Auston Pride scooped up a lucky carom during a fast break situation and scored.

#15's drive for East Atchison cut it to 10-5, but then Northeast got five more stops in a row, including Zach Pride taking a charge. Colton Swalley scored off a drive, Dylan McIntyre scored a free throw, and then Lane Dack got a block and pushed it ahead after securing the board to Auston Pride to make it 15-5. Northeast once again moved up ten at 18-8 after Swalley's drive.

But then all of a sudden, Northeast started missing free throws, clanking six in a row, which helped start East Atchison's comeback. They fought back to within 22-15 at the break on Kaylin Merriweather's putback. Dylan McIntyre scored three straight to make it 25-15 to start the third, but then Boswell got into foul trouble and had to sit. At first, Northeast struggled without one of their floor leaders as the Wolves were able to get out on the break and run at will, cutting their deficit to 25-23.

Auston Pride then hit one free throw but missed the second, giving the Wolves a chance to tie. But they missed a wide open three pointer, and then Zach Pride took a charge, his second of the game, hitting the deck after a moving screen. That seemed to settle Northeast down, and they went on to get six straight stops as they built their lead back up with Boswell still on the bench. Colton Swalley took on three Wolves defenders to score, and then got behind the defense after Dylan McIntyre aired one out to him. Dylan McIntyre cleaned up on a miss in transition and converted a three point play to make it double digits at 33-23.

Boswell came back to start the fourth, but East Atchison hit an NBA 3-pointer to right the ship, and they hung around for a while, cutting it to five at 35-30. But then Northeast stopped the bleeding from the free throw line; after missing six straight in the second quarter, they made six straight down the stretch as they pulled away. The lead was still 41-33 at the 3:53 mark of the fourth, but then Northeast settled down and got four straight stops as they finally pulled away. Dylan McIntyre hit Boswell in transition, Auston Pride hit two free throws, Ben Boswell scored on consecutive steals, and Zach Pride got on the board with two free throws.
