Editorial -- Fed up with Hostess CEO Pay? Buy Local.

Hostess recently closed its doors for the last time. It turns out that right before they closed down, they tripled their CEO's pay and gave many other members of management substantial pay increases. The fact of the matter is that money is a form of property and it is difficult to tell people what they can or can't do with their property. The mentality there was that they knew that it was going to fail and that they might as well take what they can get.

But if you're fed up with high CEO pay, the solution is to buy local. Why subsidize that sort of thing when you can help support businesses right here in Worth County and Parnell and Ravenwood? This is the sort of thing that helps keep people in the county and helps attract more people to live here so we can reverse our long-term population decline.

Hostess produced some of the sweetest treats on the market and they will soon be gone forever. That includes Twinkies, HoHo's, and other delectables that will soon become valuable collectors' items. But it is not irreplaceable. We suspect that there are plenty of cooks in the area who can produce treats that are just as sweet and likely healthier. The Sheridan Express always invites recipes from avid cooks. We invite you to send in your favorite sweet treats. Who knows, maybe you will become the next rags to riches business success story.
