Former Sheridan mayor Bud Allee died this morning (November 21st). He dedicated his life to serving the community of Sheridan and making it a better place to live. In the late 1970's and early 1980's, he brought rural housing to Sheridan, which made housing more affordable in the community. In the 1980's, he ran the Sheridan CBC, which won many awards at the state level during his tenure. From 1987 to 1992, he was the postmaster in Sheridan after having been a rural mail carrier.
Most people retire at a certain point, but for Allee, it was the beginning of a new life. From 1998 to 2010, he was mayor of Sheridan. During his tenure, he improved the water system, eliminated potholes in the streets, and put the city on a sound financial footing, saving up over $125,000 by the time he left office in 2010. He was constantly at work during his time as mayor, taking out the tractor and delivering another load of gravel to oil the streets or fix another rut or pothole somewhere. After he left office, he successfully negotiated the sale of the old Missouri Department of Transportation building to the city.
Bud was one of a kind. You could love him or you could hate him, but you could not ignore him. He will be missed by the City of Sheridan and Worth County.
