Worth County Assistant Principal's Notes -- Attendance Critical to Student Success

 by Assistant Principal Chuck Borey
In an effort to improve communication between parents and school, the Worth County School District will be implementing a telephone broadcast system.  This  will allow the school to notify all households and parents by phone of specific  information the school wants them to know. The SchoolReach service will call all phone numbers in a selected parent contact list and will deliver a recorded message from the school. Beginning November 19th, parents of students in grades 7-12 will be receiving a recorded message call if their child is absent without an excuse. These calls will go out at 10:00 a.m. to remind parents to notify the office of student absences. Any students in grades K-12 with a negative lunch account balance will be receiving a call. In the near future, other calls will be added which could include such items as school closings and other general announcements. More information will be sent out to parents through Friday Notes and other mailings.

As we move into the second quarter of the school year, I have been pleased with our overall attendance. I would like to remind parents how important attendance and getting to school on time is to student success. I would also like to remind parents if they are taking their child to an appointment or their child is sick, they need to contact the school by 10:00 a.m. so their child is not marked as unexcused for the day. Students will be marked as unexcused until their parents notify the school.  It would be very beneficial for any appointments to be scheduled during our full or early out teacher professional development days. The following dates are the full day professional development days when students will be at home: December 10, January 21, February 4, March 4, and April 29. Early out days are on November 14, December 12, January 9, February 13, March 13 and April 10.  It is very important that our students spend as much time as possible in classrooms to maximize instruction.

The elementary students are working hard to master the concepts taught in class. If a child is having difficulty, teachers will be contacting parents to set up time after school for extra tutoring. To echo Mr. Adwell, the new expectation at Worth County is "you can" be successful.  It takes all of us cooperating together to help our students become the best they can be. I would like to encourage parents to be as involved as possible in their child's education. With that said, I would like to mention the Parent Teacher Organization as a way for parents to be involved. If any parent is interested in being part of the Worth County PTO, please contact me and I will get you connected to the people in charge.

One last area I would like to mention is transportation. It is a privilege to be able to ride the bus to school. We are most fortunate to be able to have that opportunity. I would like to encourage all parents to visit with their children who ride the bus about following all bus rules and following the directions of the bus drivers. We want to keep them as safe as possible.

Please always feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.
