If I Could Vision

Richard and George Cadbury were so blessed to vision it and make it happen. They developed a wonderful world of peace and harmony. Cadbury Chocolate Factory spread its wings when George said, "No man should be condemned to see slums, pollution, or depression," as he looked out the window of their original factory in Birmingham, England. In a time when no employer cared about their employees, Cadbury chose to think and feel differently. In 1878, their vision for their employees became a reality when they purchased 14 1/2 acres in the county. "If the country is a good place to live in, why not work in?" A village was born, Bournville, England.

They helped design 16 brick homes for the foreman and senior employees with ample garden space in between. They designed a state of the art factory with heated changing rooms, kitchen, and recreational areas. Cadbury became famous not just for its prosperity but the advanced working conditions and social benefits for the workforce. They shared their relationship with God to their employees. In 1866, every morning started with daily prayers and Bible readings. They continued with that for the next 50 years until their workforce was too large for such an assembly. They preserved the family atmosphere and lives were transformed into unity at Cadbury Chocolate Factory.

Two brothers with a vision to change lives made a difference. To this day, the company has expanded around the world selling the Cadbury Egg, among other brand name chocolates. Cadbury Motels, Cadbury Amusement & History Museum, and Cadbury Chocolate Factories focus on family values. They preserved the family atmosphere, godly values, and lives were transformed. The Cadbury family grew powerful, but it seems their power went back into their family roots; "Love one another," and Colossians 4:3; "Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a master in heaven." What a legacy God built with them!

May God stir company's hearts to do the same here. It is never too late for a vision IF Christ is in the forefront of it. Let's bring back the values that began with Cadbury.
