Obituary -- Jerry Kemery 1937-2022

Memorial Services for Jerry Kemery, 84, of Blockton, Iowa will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Blockton Community Center at 11 AM. Private Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed towards the family to be established.

Jerry Gene Kemery, age 84, passed from his earthly life on July 02, 2022. Jerry was the oldest son of Clyde Kenneth Kemery and Leah Drake Kemery on October 25, 1937, he was later joined by a brother, Wayne Kemery, 15 months later.

Jerry lived most of his life in Blockton, Iowa except for a year, in 1956, he attended college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. While attending college he played basketball and baseball, lettering in baseball. Throughout Jerry's junior high and High school years he played baseball and basketball for Blockton and neighboring towns, he was truly a natural athlete and excelled at all sports. In 1956 he also rode in the Iowa High School rodeo competition, placing third in calf roping.

On June 7, 1956 he was united in marriage to Karen Stevens and to this union three daughters were born, Kathryn Coulter of Kansas City, MO, Connie Sue Kemery (deceased) and Marilyn Jo Miller of Maryville, MO.

Jerry is survived in the home by his wife Karen. Jerry and Karen lived on the Kemery family farm West of Blockton for 65 years where he enjoyed raising cattle, farming, and growing crops.

He loved his family more than anything and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids; Nicholas Rucker (Leslie Leach), Omaha, Nebraska; Cody Coulter (Brittany Coulter), Kansas City, MO; Taylor Miller, Underwood, Iowa; and Kaylee Coulter, Kansas City, MO. and two Great Grandsons; Crew David Coulter and William Cade Rucker. He is also survived by his brother Wayne (Pat) Kemery of Blockton, step-sister Sue (Paul) Beemer of Maryville, Missouri; his brother-in-law, John Stevens, Texas; sister-in-law, Shana Woodfield, California; nieces, nephews and many cousins.

His only true regret in life was not signing a contract to play baseball for the Cinncinati Red Legs, known now as the Cinncinati Reds.

Jerry lived his life by working hard, being honest and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, he was truly a role model and a mentor to many people. His infectious smile and playful manner will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
