On August 2nd, Proposition Tigers, the Worth County Bond Issue, will be on the ballot again. If passed, it will impose a 25 cent levy increase and allow the school to borrow $2.2 million for the purpose of providing funds to renovate the ag building, connect the ag and main building with a hallway, build a community center, and complete other facility projects as needed.
The first major project is the renovation of the ag building, which needs in-depth repairs to the roof, windows, heat system, lighting, ventilation, and other improvements.
A new project is construction of a hallway to connect the ag building and the main school building. It would make it so students could walk between classes in a climate controlled environment, while adding supervision and security. The school says there are also water drainage issues that the project would resolve.
The last major use of funds would be the community fitness center. It would provide a place for students, parents, community members, and area patrons to gather and exercise in all weather conditions. It would also get students home earlier, and provide more opportunities for school and community groups.
The district has applied for several grants to help fund these projects and has currently been awarded three grants to supplement the renovation and construction.
As an example of how much your taxes would go up, a $100,000 appraised house would see an annual increase in property taxes of around $47.50. A $15,000 car would see an increase of around $12.50. A $100,000 commercial property would see an increase of around $80,000. $100,000 worth of livestock and machinery would see an increase of around $30. 180 acres of land graded at 3 would see an increase of around $30.96.
Passage of the bond issue requires four sevenths. Sample ballots will be in the July 20th and 27th issues of the Sheridan Express on Page 9 along with polling locations. For people taking a Republican ballot, Proposition Tigers will be on the back of the ballot; all other party ballots will have Proposition Tigers on the front of the ballot. Polls will be open on August 2nd from 6 am to 7 pm.
