Margaret Carolyn “Connie” Stevens, age 89, Grant City, Missouri died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Orilla’s Way Residential Care Facility in Grant City.
Connie was born January 11, 1933, near Ridgeway, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Norvia Ray “Josh” and Florence Beulah (Melton) Craig. As a young girl they moved near Mount Moriah and later moved to Bethany where Connie graduated from high school.
Connie accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at the age of 12 in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She was currently a member of the Grant City Baptist Church.
In high school, Connie was in Glee Club, enjoyed art and was a starting member of the volleyball team which were the Grand River Conference Champions her Junior and Senior years. Her hobbies included reading, poetry, crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking, playing the piano and tap dancing.
In the fall of 1948, she met Darrell “Steve” Stevens. They were united in marriage on November 11, 1949, at her aunt’s home in Laredo, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Steven Craig, Lisa Paulette, Edward Darrell and Eric Brian. Darrell and Connie moved to Denver in 1950 where they started a small farming operation raising Jersey cows. They moved to Grant City in 1974 where she currently resided.
In May of 1979, Connie took the postal exam, after which she became Postal Clerk at New Hampton. Connie also served as Postmaster at Darlington and Gentry, Missouri. She retired after 15 years with the postal service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell, son Craig, grandson William, two sisters Norma Jeanne Middleton, and Nina Woodward.
Her survivors include daughter Lisa (Clay) McNair, Maryville, sons Ed (Kim) Stevens, Parkville, Missouri, Eric (Jana) Stevens, Kearney, Missouri, eight grandchildren Amanda Dykman, Jennifer (Mike) Frederick, Michaela McNair, Zachary, Cole, Jacob, Madisyn and Caleb Stevens, 7 great grandchildren, one sister Mary Ann (George) Frazier, Bethany, Missouri and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, where the family will receive friends 4-6 PM, Sunday, July 10. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery, Denver. Missouri. Memorial: Miller Cemetery or American Diabetes Association.
