The Allendale Fourth of July Breakfast got international attention Monday as Axel Levitan of Sydney (Australia) came from halfway around the globe to attend the Allendale Fourth of July Breakfast. He is a friend of Kevin and Jeannie Harding. He was put to work helping to serve the breakfast, and he was honored for being the farthest away. Other candidates were from Oregon and Colorado.
Evelyn Groom (91) was the oldest woman present, while Jack Cottrell (92) was the oldest man. Kyson Bern Humes, held by his grandmother Beth Davis, was the youngest boy while Odelia Newman, daughter of Carlie Newman, was the youngest girl at three months.
The Family Circle Singers performed. 2nd District House candidates Randy Railsback and Mazzie Boyd spoke briefly at the gathering, with Railsback presenting Mayor Kevin Harding with a US flag and a flag of Missouri.
The tribute to the veterans was held, with 20 veterans coming up on stage to be recognized and honored.
