Courthouse News for July 6th, 2022

On June 28th, the St. Joseph Police Department reported that someone had made a bomb threat to the St. Joseph Wal-Mart at North Belt Highway. Authorities evacuated the store, searched the building, but found no explosives.

On June 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Johnathan Perez-Colchado (23) of Secena (MO) in Nodaway County on a charge of Speeding and a Polk County Warrant (No Plates).

On June 28th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Eric Hernandez (32) of Maryville in Nodaway County on charges of DWI and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway.

On June 28, 2022, Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff's Office arrested Julia Sheler, 28, and Kaitlin Puckett, 26, both of Bedford were arrested on outstanding Taylor County Warrants. Previously, an anonymous source gave information of narcotics being used in front of children at their residence. Deputies along with Iowa Department of Human Services - Child Protective Services worked a joint investigation into the matter. Sheler and Puckett were charged with possession of a controlled substance (marijuana), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, and child endangerment. 

On June 28th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Colter Loving (36) of Bethany alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Stealing Meth Manufacturing Material (Felony), Resisting Arrest (Felony), and Assault (Felony). Bond was set at $50,000, cash only.

On June 28th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Jacen Stotts (26) of Gilman City alleging Driving While Revoked, Speeding (26+ mph over), and No Seat Belt.

On June 28th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Jessica McCreary (21) of Mount Ayr alleging Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway (Accident).

On June 28th, Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined $750,000 for helping the late Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. Four of them testified that they had been abused by Epstein in his mansions in Florida, New York, New Mexico, and the Virgin Islands and that Maxwell had recruited them.

On June 29th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Andrew McGee (36) of Maryville alleging two counts Enticement of a Minor (Felony) and Sexual Misconduct Involving a Minor (Felony). Bond was set at $100,000, cash or corporate surety.

On June 29th, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Kaiston Abrams (19) of Skidmore alleging Speeding (20-25 mph over) and Minor in Possession.

On June 29th, the Sheridan Ambulance was called out and was headed east of town on 246 at around 6:30 pm.

On June 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Andrew Martin (29) of Kansas City in Harrison County on charges of Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), DWI (Drugs), Speeding (90 mph), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Prior), and Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway. Bond was set at $50,000, cash only.

Lawsuits have been filed in conjunction with the dump truck and train accident near Mendon (MO) that killed the dump truck driver and three passengers. On June 30th, Amtrak and BNSF Railway Company filed a lawsuit against MS Contracting alleging their truck driver, Billy Barton II, crossed the railroad tracks in a manner that was “unsafe, careless, and reckless.” It also alleges the company failed to properly maintain its trucking equipment or properly train its employees, including Barton. Barton was killed in the accident. His widow filed a lawsuit against a BNSF manager and Chariton County alleging the intersection was dangerous because it lacks visibility for drivers and does not have a sufficient warning system. Several passengers have already retained legal counsel according to the Kansas City Star.

On June 30th, the Kansas City Star and multiple other Kansas City area outlets reported that the County of Wyandotte County (KS) paid $12.5 million to settle a lawsuit brought by Lamonte McIntyre (no relation to the McIntyres of Ravenwood or Hopkins) alleging Wrongful Imprisonment. In 2017, McIntyre was exonerated and released from prison for a 1994 double murder that the state now says he didn’t commit. The mother had alleged that a Kansas City (KS) detective framed her son after she rejected his sexual advances, and she had also alleged that the county and several other police officers had violated his civil rights. The State of Kansas had already awarded McIntyre $1.55 million and a certificate of innocence.

After his release, McIntyre cofounded Miracle of Innocence, an Overland Park organization that aims to exist other people who have been exonerated. The news website Injustice Watch, which specializes in investigative reporting on institutional failures that obstruct justice and equality, did an extensive story on McIntyre’s case. 

On July 1st, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office issued a news release threatening to sue any municipality that pays for people to travel to other states to obtain an abortion when the purpose is not to save the life of the mother.

On July 1st, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Jade Hughes (28) of Grant City alleging two counts Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony). Bond was set at $30,000, cash only.

On July 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Andrew Faustlin (25) of Ravenwood alleging DWI and No Tail Lights.

On July 1st, an officer from the Missouri State Highway Patrol stopped someone near the Five Mile Corner west of Sheridan at around 4:55 pm.

On July 1st, Nodaway County Prosecutor Caleb Phillips filed charges against Salih Mohammed (34) of Portland (OR) alleging Careless & Imprudent Driving (Accident).

On July 1st, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Nicholas Phelps (19) of Lamoni on charges of DWI and Unsafe Passing. Bond was set at $1,000, cash only.

On July 2nd, four kids were photographed reaching into an abandoned building in Hopkins and grabbing stuff out of it.

On July 2nd, a Bethany woman reported that someone purposely tried to hit a dog with a pickup truck.

On July 2nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Everton Hayden (36) of Clyde in Nodaway County on charges of Following Too Closely, Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway, Failure to Signal, Failure to Yield, Stopping in the Middle of Roadway, Failure to Stop, DWI, Driving While Suspended, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Littering, Resisting Arrest, and Sexual Assault.

On July 2nd, a Sheridan resident reported someone stole a cradle with flowers off a tombstone.

On July 3rd, a Maryville resident reported that someone had knocked a hole in their car’s gas tank and stole their gas.

On July 3rd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Joel Moore (30) of King City in Gentry County on charges of No Valid License, No Seat Belt, and two Platte County Warrants (No Insurance, Driving While Revoked).

On July 3rd, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Lesa Darrah (44) of Redding on a charge of Fraudulent Practice (2nd Degree). Bond was set at $5,000, cash or corporate surety.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
