Jayliegh Robins Goes Deep as Shamrocks Win 20-0 Over Tri-County

Jayliegh Robins went deep against Tri-County in the second round of the HDC Tournament Saturday, crushing one into the cold north wind howling in from center and over the fence, and North Harrison won even more handily than the first time against Tri-County, scoring 15 in the second to win 20-0; they didn’t even have to come up to bat for the third inning. Carly Rinehart scattered two hits, struck out five, and had an outstanding defensive play behind her as Hailey Claycomb, only a freshman, came running in from left to make a catch to help preserve the shutout. Trendi Johnson made a running catch in the first inning from her second base position to take another hit away from the blue shirts.

Jayliegh Robins started off with a bad hop double past a drawn-in infield, which thought she was going to bunt on them. Carly Rinehart hit a pop fly single to right and Natalie Parkhurst (running for Rinehart) stole second. Rainey Fordyce hit a pop fly single behind second base to score Robins and put Parkhurst on third. Rainey stole second, Camden Castleberry was hit by a pitch, and Natalie Parkhurst came home on a wild pitch. That made it 2-0, and a walk and two more hit batters brought in three more runs to make it 5-0.

Emma Craig reached on an error and stole second to start the Shamrock second. Rainey Fordyce hit a pop fly single, Emma was safe at home, and Rainey went all the way to third on the play as the ball was thrown around. Camden Castleberry walked and took off to second and made it as Rainey stole home on the throw. Kami Gibson singled and reached second on an error by the center fielder to score Castleberry.  Ruby Heinz singled to center to score Kami. Baily Briggs reached on a dropped force play at second, Trendi Johnson grounded out to advance Briggs and Heinz, and Jayliegh Robins grounded out to score Ruby.

The next ten Shamrock runs came with two outs. Carly Rinehart was hit by a pitch, and Emma Craig walked to load the bases again. Rainey Fordyce hit a fly ball that dropped between left and center for an error as two runs scored, and Camden Castleberry doubled into the left field corner to score two more. Kami Gibson doubled to left center to score one, Trendi Johnson doubled into the left center gap to score two, and Jayliegh Robins capped off the 15 run inning with her three run home run to dead center into the stiff wind.
