Recently, the City of Grant City voted to end support for the Economic Developer position. The position had been vacant since the resignation of Gene Auten. With a vacancy for the City Clerk position as well, Mayor Debbie Roach said the city could combine the clerk’s salary and the savings from not funding the Economic Developer’s position and create a City Administrator position. That person will be able to work full time writing grants for the city and doing other needed projects.
The city, the county, and local businesses had supported the Economic Developer’s position for the last 20 years. Over the last several years, there had been a lot of turnover in the position. The position was a part-time, self-employed position, which meant that the Economic Developer was responsible for their own taxes, which could add up to $3,000.
