Courthouse News for August 5th, 2020

On July 26th, the Ringgold County Sheriff’s Department arrested Justin Trout (41) of Fort Madison (IA) on a charge of DWI.

On July 28th, Worth County Prosecutor Janet Wake Larison filed charges against Casey Greenwell (42) of Grant City alleging Assault (Felony), Domestic Assault (Felony), and Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony).

On July 29th, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department posted the following news release about a person arrested following a drug investigation:

On July 29, 2020, Nodaway County Deputies were working an investigation involving distribution of illegal drugs.  Deputies intercepted a car driven by a 25-year-old male from St. Joseph, MO, outside of Barnard.  K-9 Bolt was deployed.  Deputies recovered packages containing substances that tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine in presumptive field tests.  The suspect also had a loaded pistol.  The suspect had a prior felony conviction that prevented him from legally having a firearm. On July 30, 2020, Prosecuting Attorney Baird charged Domonick Warrren, age 25, of St. Joseph, MO, with a class C Felony, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, and a class D felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Additional charges may be filed at a later date.  He was not given a bond and he currently is in the Nodaway County Jail.  Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On July 29th, Governor Mike Parson appointed Caleb Phillips to serve as Nodaway County Prosecutor. He will replace David Baird, who had served as Interim Prosecutor after Robert Rice was appointed as Nodaway County Associate Circuit Judge by Governor Mike Parson. Phillips will serve out the remainder of the term and will be up for reelection in 2022.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Ernesto Martinez (31) of St. Joseph alleging DWI, Failure to Drive on Right Half of Roadway, and No Tail Light.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Wesley Coke (44) of Linneus (MO) alleging Violation of a Protection Order.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Kaila McClaflin (31) of Gilman City alleging Violation of a Protection Order.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Kellie Holtman (49) of St. Joseph alleging Forgery (Felony).

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Michael Guy (24) of Ridgeway alleging Animal Abuse (Felony). Subsequently, on August 3rd, additional charges were filed against him alleging Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony). Bond was set at $15,000, cash only.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Austin DeMelt (20) of Ridgeway alleging Animal Abuse (Felony). Bond was set at $15,000, cash only.

On July 29th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Levi Wedgeworth (31) of Bethany alleging Burglary (Felony). Bond was set at $15,000, cash only. Northwest Mo Info reports that the charges arose in conjunction with a break-in at Advanced Tire in Bethany on June 3rd, which was caught by a security camera and circulated on Facebook.

On July 30th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against William Vangerpen (55) of Kearney alleging DWI and Speeding.

On July 30th, Harrison County Prosecutor Johnathan Meyer filed charges against Kodie Smith (30) of Ridgeway alleging DWI, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, No Valid License, and Failure to Drive on Right Half.

On July 31st, the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department printed a news release about a drug bust that occurred in southern Nodaway County:

On July 31, 2020, Nodaway County Deputies were working an investigation involving distribution of illegal drugs in the southeast area of Nodaway County.  Deputies intercepted a car driven by a 48-year-old female.  There was a 55-year-old male passenger.   K-9 Bolt was deployed on the suspect vehicle and Bolt alerted to the presence of an illegal narcotic.  During the subsequent search, Deputies recovered approximately one ounce of methamphetamine and digital scales.

On August 1, 2020, Prosecuting Attorney Baird charged both 55-year-old Lawrence R. Fitzmier, of Mound City, and 48-year-old Tammy Kay Grout, of Maryville, with Delivery of Controlled Substance.  This is a class C felony.  

Both Grout and Fitzmier are being held without bond in the Nodaway County Jail.  They both have a court appearance on August 3, 2020.  

On July 31st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Steven Adkins (40) of Kansas City in Harrison County on charges of Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Seat Belt.

On August 1st, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested James Chesnut (21) of Skidmore in Nodaway County on charges of DWI, Leaving the Scene (Damages Exceeding $1,000), and Failure to Yield.

On August 2nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Eric Lee (30) of Chicago in Harrison County alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Hallucinogens), Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Speeding (87 mph).

On August 2nd, the Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested Christian Sosa (28) of Chicago in Harrison County alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Hallucinogens), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On August 3rd, Special Prosecutor Kelly Wayne Puckett filed charges against Jarod Hillyard (34) of Bethany in Harrison County alleging Possession of Controlled Substance (Felony) and Peace Disturbance.

Charges listed are mere allegations. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
