Last Tuesday, the MSHSAA board voted to grant relief from two bylaws and a board policy.
Schools will now be allowed to participate in MSHSAA sports while schools are not meeting in-person. Schools will also be allowed to participate in MSHSAA sports if a school is forced to transition to virtual instruction due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Students must still meet MSHSAA and local school standards to be eligible. Decisions will be up to local schools.
Schools will now be allowed to participate in two-team jamborees this year. This will allow jamborees to still be held if two schools opt out.
Schools will now be allowed to compete in post-season events if they compete in less than half of their permitted contests under a particular sport. This allows schools whose teams are forced to quarantine due to a Coronavirus outbreak to come back and compete in the post-season. Schools will have until September 11th to notify the MSHSAA that they will not be able to participate in fall postseasons. MSHSAA will do class and district assignments for football and softball later than usual, on September 18th.
