Former Northeast Nodaway boys coach Ryan Madden has found a new coaching life this year as head boys coach of Osborn. He is also the assistant girls coach there as well.
As coach for the Northeast Nodaway boys two years ago, he led the Bluejays to a 19-8 mark, an improvement over the previous year despite having lost a lot of players from the year before. But Madden was always outspoken and always blunt with his players. Following his first summer game, a loss to Worth County, he said publicly, “It’s not going to happen again.” He hated losing with a passion and he backed up his words as Northeast won that winter against Worth County by 15.
There were plenty of memorable games for the Bluejays that year. In the King City Tournament, Northeast fell behind by double digits, but rallied to force overtime despite not having double double threat Bryce Farnan, who fouled out. They went on to beat King City in six overtimes, 100-93. Current Worth County girls coach Bryce Shafar was an assistant coach with King City’s boys during the game.
