The Northeast Nodaway junior high boys kept coming close and finally posted the first track meet victory by a Bluejay track team at any level in 19+ years, winning the Junior High Squaw Creek relays in Mound City Monday, April 14th. They almost came back for seconds, giving Worth County a run for its money at Stanberry Thursday. The girls were seventh.
For the boys, NEN had 69, Mid-Buchanan 63, Platte Valley 62, Mound City 60, North Andrew 53, South Holt 38, Rock Port 37, East Atchison 36, East Buchanan 31, Craig 30, North Nodaway 20, OSHS 14, and St. Joseph Christian 12.
The meet came down to the 4x400. Platte Valley had 62, Northeast Nodaway was at 59, and Mid-Buchanan was at 58. Platte Valley did not field a 4x400 team, meaning that Northeast Nodaway had to finish at least fifth and beat out Mid-Buchanan to win the whole meet. The Bluejays won the race by almost seven seconds ahead of Craig with a time of 4:20.79, while Mid-Buchanan was fourth with a time of 4:36.53.
Wyatt Scadden was second in the 100 with a time of 12.04. Bentin Roberts was sixth with a time of 12.44. Scadden was third in the 200 with a time of 26.41. Bentin Roberts was third in the 400 with a time of 1:01.05.
The Bluejays placed two in the 1600. Liam Cordell was sixth with a time of 5:56.24. Gracin Runde was seventh with a time of 5:56.81.
Wyatt Scadden was second in the High Jump with a height of 1.63 meters. Bentin Roberts was second in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.42 meters. Jace Burns was fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.46.
The Bluejays placed two in the Discus. Jace Burns was third with a throw of 29.71 and Brady O’Connell was fifth with a throw of 29.09.
For the girls, Mid-Buchanan had 109, Rock Port 86, East Atchison 61, Mound City 58, St. Gregory’s 55, St. Joseph Christian 43, NEN 38, South Holt 30, North Andrew 25, East Buchanan 19, Platte Valley 15, OSHS 9, Craig 8, Nodaway Valley 7, and North Nodaway 1.
Piper Gray was sixth in the 200 with a time of 31.96. Rylee Scadden was third with a time of 1:09.65.
The 4x100 was second with a time of 59.42. The 4x200 was third with a time of 2:06.73. The 4x400 was third with a time of 4:59.94.
Khloe Burns was fourth in the Shot Put with a throw of 8.75 meters. Eryn O’Connell was seventh with a throw of 7.76. Burns was seventh in the Discus with a throw of 16.94.
