Mustangs No-Hit by Cooper Wachtel

North Nodaway had been going through a tough-luck season this year, having lost by 10 or more runs each game. They had every right to expect a competitive game against DeKalb Monday, but the Tigers are improved from recent times, having won four games last year and already at 2-1 this year after Monday's win. They did not get a single hit against DeKalb and Cooper Wachtel, who is turning into a pitching ace for the Tigers, as the Mustangs fell 13-1. North Nodaway has yet to score more than two runs in a game this year.

The game was over after the first inning as Mustang pitcher Ridge Clements fought the strike zone, walked seven, and hit a batter as DeKalb built up a 9-0 lead before the Mustangs could even come to bat. They turned to Weston Alexander, who got them out of the first and through the second before tiring in the third as DeKalb scored twice more. They turned to Aiden James, who got them out of the third before DeKalb got tallies in the fourth and fifth.

North Nodaway got their lone tally in the second when Ridge Clements and Blaine Clements walked and pulled off a successful double steal of second and third. Kaeden Nave grounded out to get in a run.

The fielding was a bright spot for the Mustangs; after a couple of errors in the first inning, they only made one more for the rest of the game, and Weston Alexander made some outstanding plays at shortstop, including a running backhanded catch in the fifth.
