Mary Lou (Lambert) Cook, Grant City, Missouri, was born on July 18, 1932 on a farm southwest of Grant City, Missouri to Owen and Lennis Lambert and passed away on April, 17, 2025. Mary Lou attended rural elementary schools until the family moved to Redding, Iowa where she graduated from Redding High School in 1950.
Mary Lou was the oldest of seven children. With her parents busy on the farm, Mary Lou was a great help raising her two sisters and four brothers.
Mary Lou was active in Glee Club, 4-H and church. She had a great love for music. After high school, she continued singing at church, weddings, funerals and other social events.
After graduation, Mary Lou moved to Grant City and lived and worked for her aunt, Lily Andrews. While living with her aunt, Donna Mae Combs and Paul Hiatt introduced her to her future husband, Galen Cook.
Galen and Mary Lou were married at the Grant City Methodist parsonage on March 9, 1951. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Goodland, Kansas. In 1953, they moved back to Redding, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Redding Grocery and Cafe. They moved to a farm northeast of Grant City in 1954 where they farmed, raised Charolais cattle, and lived for 47 years.
Mary Lou was a member of the Redding United Methodist Church and later transferred her membership to the Grant City United Methodist Church. In their early years, Galen and Mary Lou enjoyed the Merry Mixers Club, Square Dancing and later enjoyed their Pinochle Club. She also enjoyed being in her floral business, Flowers Unlimited, for over 30 years. Mary Lou had a great love for her family. Being a wonderful cook, she loved family dinners and spending time with her family.
Mary Lou was proceeded in death by her husband, Galen; her parents, Owen and Lennis Lambert; sister, Rowena Miller; brothers, Kenneth and Calvin Lambert; brothers-in-law, Harold Miller and Richard Bain; sisters-in-law Helen Roberts and Neva Whiteside; and brothers-in-law, Herb and Max Cook.
Surviving are her children, Leland (Cathy) Cook, Toledo, Iowa; Sherri (Rod) Richey, Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Neal Cook, Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Nona Ann Bain; brothers, Keith (Mary Kay) Lambert and Gary Lambert; sisters-in-law, Martha Lambert and Shirley Lambert and brother-in-law, Jerry Cook; grandchildren, Ayrica (Eric) Richardson, Allyson (Ron) Landphair, Jennifer Cook, Jerett Cook, Ryan (Carrie) Richey, Kelly (Ryan) Roush; great grandchildren, Jake and Camille Landphair, Ava, Bethany and Cayla Richardson, Emma and Zoey Richey, Evelyn and Natalie Roush, Giavonnie and Gabriel Cook and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 12 PM, Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, Missouri. The family will receive friends from11 AM-12 PM prior to the services. A private family inurnment will be in the Grant City Cemetery at a later date.
