The Grant City Council, at its regular meeting Wednesday, March 22nd, raised its water rate but dropped its sewer rate. The rates are set based on cash flow. City Administrator Meggan Brown will check with other communities regarding water and sewer rates. Grant City’s sewer rate is based off its water rate, while others do not tie their water and sewer rates.
Bob Hull and Joe Marshall of Worth County VFW Post 3123 were present to give the city a presentation for decorating the Square with flags.
Randy Meek was present to discuss a July 4th event. He would like to do a street dance or fireworks. Such events are required to be insured, a local sponsor found, and a special event application is required.
The city auditors submitted reports for the 2020 and 2021 audits, but are no longer performing audits. The city will have to find a new auditor.
The city is on the list for warranty work for the pool. The city is in the process of advertising for lifeguards.
The council voted to have Brock Pfost do the High Street water main. The project is being paid for by ARPA funds.
The council voted to proceed with a USDA Mower and Excavator grant.
The city will send a letter turning down USDA funding for the wastewater project. The city has acquired the funding from ARPA, so the money is no longer needed. The city is in the process of acquiring easements.
The city has gotten inquiries about chickens in town. Animals must be 150 feet from dwellings and only two animals per acre are permitted.
Public Works Director Carl Staton reported that city crews were working on equipment and patching. There was a service line leak on 10th & Main. They dug up a meter pit. Among things on the city’s wish list includes 20 gas meters, and a new locator. City employee Ryan Fletchall has gotten his water license.
The city got three bids for water tower inspection. The council accepted the bid from Midco ROV.
The city voted to donate $100 for the Worth County After Prom.
