Armadillo Seen in Worth County

Last week, someone ran over an armadillo in Grant City across the street from Hart’s Drive-In. The Missouri Department of Conservation says that armadillos have been moving north of the Missouri River since around 1980. They were first found in Texas in 1849, and they have been expanding their range north and east ever since. They are common in Missouri and are found statewide.

They typically eat insects and other invertebrates such as ants, beetles, flies, earthworms, and even small reptiles. They can also eat fungi and fruit. They locate food with their nose, which they hold close to the ground.
