Shamrock Girls Hold Off King City as Emma Craig Posts 21 Points

North Harrison held off King City and won 42-34 Monday, December 17th as Emma Craig posted 21 points and the Shamrocks held off several Wildkat charges. King City came into the game only having won one game, but they were in all their games but their second game of the year, when they were buried by Princeton.

Victoria Washburn hit from the high post to put King City up 4-2 at the 5:50 mark of the first quarter, but Emma Craig’s three-point play and Mason Cracraft’s drive made it 7-4 in favor of the Shamrocks. Emma Craig hit Rainey Fordyce backdoor to put North Harrison up 11-7 after one.

Kami Gibson got a putback, Olivia Babinski hit Emma Craig inside, and Babinski hit Ashlynn Gilpatrick to make it 18-7 at the 4:51 mark of the second. But then King City switched to a diamond and one on Emma Craig. At first, nothing worked as North Harrison turned back a quick spurt from King City with back to back inside shots from Addie Slaughter to make it 22-11 again. But then Brynan Tunks got the hot hand late in the half, Emma Craig picked up her second foul, and Washburn added a drive to make it 22-17 at halftime.

North Harrison built the lead back up to nine again as Emma Craig started scoring again despite the diamond and one, hitting two free throws after a loose ball recovery, driving after getting a pass from Addie Slaughter, and getting a putback to make it 30-21. But then King City started frantically pressing and pressing after a miss as they got a layup and then Madeline Saunders hit a three at the buzzer after North Harrison tried to hold it for the last shot, but King City got a steal to make it 30-26.

Things got chippy in the fourth quarter. Rainey Fordyce hit Mason Cracraft inside to restore order; then, after being whistled for a foul while trying to trap one of North Harrison’s guards, Washburn slammed the ball down and got a technical foul, sitting for the rest of the game and taking away one of their leading scorers. Emma Craig hit both technical shots to make it 34-26 with 6:48 left.

King City kept coming as Chloe Eiberger got a putback; then, Tunks started driving at will to get her team back into the game. The Wildkats got back to within 36-33, but then, Kami Gibson and Chloe Eiberger got tangled up going after a rebound and Eiberger was whistled for a foul, while Gibson was whistled for a technical. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise for North Harrison with 2:02 left, as Gibson made both her free throws, while Eiberger only made one out of two to make it a two possession lead for North Harrison at 38-34.

King City got the ball back after the technical and had a long possession, taking nearly a minute off the clock as they could not find an opening against North Harrison’s defense. Finally, Tunks got on the line with 1:08 left in the game but missed both free throws. North Harrison converted on the other end as Olivia Babinski hit Emma Craig to make it 40-34 and King City threw it away on their ensuing possession. Olivia Babinski hit a free throw with 36 seconds left, Addie Slaughter got the offensive board, and hit another with 32.7 seconds left to clinch the game.

Emma Craig had 21 to lead North Harrison. Addie Slaughter had 5, Kami Gibson and Mason Cracraft 4, Ashlynn Gilpatrick 3, Rainey Fordyce and Deva Wallace 2, and Olivia Babinski 1.

Addie Slaughter had 8 boards for the Shamrocks. Kami Gibson had 7, Emma Craig 6, Olivia Babinski and Ashlynn Gilpatrick 3, Mason Cracraft 2, and Rainey Fordyce 1.

Olivia Babinski had 5 assists for North Harrison. Ashlynn Gilpatrick had 2, while Emma Craig, Mason Cracraft, Ashlynn Gilpatrick, Rainey Fordyce, and Kami Gibson all had 1.

Addie Slaughter had 4 tips for North Harrison. Emma Craig had 2, while Mason Cracraft, Rainey Fordyce, Kami Gibson, Ashlynn Gilpatrick, and Olivia Babinski had 1.
