#1 Worth County 50, Albany 0
Albany has fallen hard during its last two games, dropping a 58-6 halftime game to Mound City on the 7th and a 50-0 halftime game to Worth County Friday. Worth County only needed nine plays to score their seven touchdowns. Albany showed they could move the ball on Worth County on the ground. But for them to win another game, they will have to figure out how to stop someone. They gave up over 30 yards a play against Worth County. The scary thing is that Worth County didn’t even feel like they played a perfect game.
For Worth County, Caleb Parman had 14 tackles, Reed McIntyre 11, Colton Wilmes 8, Isaac Alarcon and Jaxon Anderson 7, Andrew Alarcon and Alex Rinehart 4, Bryant McCord and Nate Adwell 2, and Jacob New and Aydan Gladstone 1. Caleb Parman and Jaxon Anderson had 1 sack each. Jacob New, Jaxon Anderson, and Isaac Alarcon all had pass breakups. Colton Wilmes had a fumble recovery; Andrew Alarcon forced a fumble on defense.
#2 Stanberry 58, St. Joseph Christian 8
Stanberry had little trouble disposing of winless Christian in this halftime game. Christian showed they could move the ball against Stanberry, but they could not put it in the end zone. Stanberry’s two-headed monster of Trey Schieber (13 carries, 94 yards) and Cole Durbin (9 carries, 88 yards) led Stanberry.
Christian will look to get on the winning track as they face Albany this Friday. For Stanberry, it will be their turn to try to stop the Pattonsburg juggernaut. Pattonsburg’s varsity line allowed no sacks in their wins over North Andrew and King City. However, the question will be if they can block Zack Oldham, who had 3.5 sacks Friday against Christian. Defensively, the Panthers will have to tackle well and stay with assignments; Trey Schieber is one of the most difficult men to tackle in eight man football, and Cole Durbin is lightning quick.
For Stanberry, the question will be if they can put four people on the field who can match up with Pattonsburg’s receivers. All four of the Pattonsburg receivers can break a long one. And all of Pattonsburg’s plays are really quick to develop, making it difficult for enemy linemen to get pressure on Steven Willhite.
There is plenty of incentive for Pattonsburg to win this game – they have to play Worth County the following week, and having to face the top-ranked team in the area is not the best tonic for a loss.
#3 Mound City 64, #7 Southwest Livingston 14
Southwest Livingston crashed and burned hard, while Mound City continued to solidify itself near the top of the football rankings in this game, which ended in the third quarter. Mound City moved the ball through the air and on the ground, getting 407 yards of total offense. Landon Poppa was 6 for 6 through the air for 81 yards. On the ground, Dylan Marrs had 5 carries for 111 yards, Matthew Poppa 8 carries for 102 yards, and T.J. Hopkins 13 carries for 90 cards. All three of them broke at least one carry for 25 yards.
Turnovers were a big difference in the game. While Mound City fumbled the ball away twice, Southwest Livingston threw four picks and fumbled it away another time for five turnovers. And Mound City had a strong pass rush, getting seven sacks. T.J. Hopkins had 3.5 sacks, Parker Staples 2, Blake Hayes 1, and Walker Ross 0.5.
Southwest Livingston only had 146 total yards. And Mound City could have done even better if they had not been whistled for so many penalties; there were 11 penalties for 85 yards.
#4 Pattonsburg 76, #8 King City 30
Pattonsburg exceeded their own expectations with this win. And the scary thing about it is they still felt after the game that they had room to improve. Four out of their five receivers will return next year, while quarterback Steven Willhite is only a junior. His backup, Kaden De Jong, is only a sophomore. The Panthers will be around for at least the next three years.
#5 Rock Port 56, North/West Nodaway 6
Rock Port gave up one big play to the Muskets, but otherwise looked solid in this halftime game.
#6 East Atchison 50, DeKalb 22
DeKalb moved the ball to the tune of 375 yards, picked off the Wolves twice, and recovered a fumble, but still couldn’t slow down the Wolves’ attack. East Atchison is on the rise following their opening-week loss to Southwest Livingston, but must now face arch-rival Rock Port. East Atchison has never beaten Rock Port since the two powers dropped down to eight man, but have come close a few times.
#9 North Andrew 70, Osceola 24
North Andrew had trouble in the first half against the Indians, but pulled away in the second half for the win. They didn’t complete a single pass all night, relying on Jaden Baker, Ryan Wilmes, and Logan Hughes on the ground. Baker had 14 carries for 188 yards, while Hughes had 15 carries for 102 yards. Ryan Wilmes had 4 touchdowns. They had two safeties, from McKinley Lillard and Kaleb Chittum. Levi Lineville added a pick six for the Cardinals. Logan Hughes led the Cardinals with 12 tackles.
#10 Orrick 72, Stewartsville 26
After an impressive 50-0 win over North/West Nodaway, the Cardinals have not won since. Orrick, on the other hand, has flown under the radar. However, with their 4-0 start, that will change. They showed the ability to move through both the air and the ground, getting a 73 yard strike from Seth McAfee to Gabe McAfee through the air. On the ground, Blake Buchanan rushed 19 times for 195 yards. Seth McAfee had 15 carries for 140 yards, while Caleb Stegner had 10 carries for 44 yards. The Bearcats were locked in a tight game with Stewartsville, leading them 32-20 at the half. But the game ended in the third quarter after Orrick outscored Stewartsville 40-6 for the win.
Orrick took advantage of three Stewartsville turnovers, getting one pick and two fumble recoveries. Blaine Wilson converted one of those fumble recoveries into a touchdown.
