A white tomcat was dumped in the Casey’s parking lot in Grant City Monday. The cat was diseased, with skin infections and ear mites. In Missouri, a person is guilty of Animal Neglect when he has custody of an animal and fails to provide adequate care. A person is also guilty when they abandon an animal without making provision for its care.
Persons found guilty of Animal Neglect can be found guilty of a Class C Misdemeanor and fined up to $500. Penalties are stiffer for subsequent offense. In addition, the court can order people found guilty to pay all reasonable costs and expenses for that animal’s care and maintenance.
