Kelly Summa of Stanberry was named the new administrator for the Worth County Care & Rehab Center recently. She began her duties Monday. She replaces Bev Miller, who resigned to take a position down in St. Joseph.
Summa was born in Iowa and lived in Mississippi and Louisiana before she came to northwest Missouri, where she graduated from Albany High School in 1987. She has served as an administrator for seven years in several places, a long-term care ombudsman for five years, a dietary manager for eight years, and started off as a cook.
She said she took the job because it was closer to home, she liked the smaller environment better, and she would get to know the employees and residents better. She said she wanted to grow the census from 20, meet with the community, and work with the school to get kids out to the facility more.
Summa said her favorite teacher in school was Mrs. Debra Buckalew of Albany, a Speech and Drama teacher, who helped her become comfortable with speaking in front of people. She is married to Bernie Summa, who is retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant. She has one son, Zach Hopkins, who has two sons. She has two step-daughters, Rachel and Brooke.
