By Brandon Lyddon, Conservation Agent
The following are a few recent examples of Conservation Agent work in Missouri. Conservation Agents are state law enforcement officers that focus their efforts on conservation law enforcement. This work includes pro-active patrols and the response to calls on conservation areas. Agents enforce all state laws on conservation areas and when violations are observed during routine conservation law enforcement outside of conservation areas. Conservation area public safety is a top priority for Conservation Agents.
Agents occasionally work together with other law enforcement agencies. A recent patrol targeting rivers grouped up Conservation Agents, Marine Troopers, and Park Rangers. Several violations were observed and responded to including the possession of a controlled substance, minor in possession of alcohol, and littering.
Another Agent with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a stolen vehicle on a conservation area that resulted in the apprehension of a subject who also was in possession of methamphetamine.
Other Agent work included response to conservation violations. Some examples of that were illegal fishing methods, over-limits of fish, no fishing permits, off-road violations, and conservation area closed hours violations.
To report conservation violations, you can contact Missouri Conservation Agents directly (numbers on MDC website) or by calling the county or state dispatch center. You can also call the OGT (Operation Game Thief) 24-hour hotline at 1-800-392-1111, you can remain anonymous and rewards are possible.
