Anna Marie (McAlister) Taylor passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017 with family by her side. A consummate homemaker; avid reader of poetry, historical novels, and Dr. Seuss; lover of hot tamales, liqueur-covered ice-cream, and buttered popcorn (accompanied by horror movie marathons); mistress of Scrabble, blue jokes, and the Queen's wave; collector of sea shells and supreme baker of pies; she remained ever-sassy to the end.
Annie was born on July 24, 1930 in Sheridan, MO., the eldest and only daughter of four children. Her father owned the town barbershop and pool hall. Annie and her brothers grew up helping in the business, perhaps explaining her ease in meeting people and forging friendships. Annie graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1948.
Soon thereafter, Annie moved to Kansas City, where she met her future husband Terry Taylor. They would eventually have three daughters, Cherie, Shelly, and Wendy, whom Annie adored. After relocations to St. Louis and Tampa, Annie and Terry settled in Richmond, Virginia, where they remained for many years.
Annie was predeceased by her father, Roger McAlister Sr., mother Maude Marie (Stoner) McAlister, and brothers Roger Jr.and Charles Archer. She is survived by her husband Ulysses Roy "Terry" Taylor, Jr.; brother William McAlister (Jolly) of Melbourne, FL. ; daughters Cherie Ann Hawk (Eldon) of St Louis, MO, Terri Michelle "Shelly" Beard (Richard) of Centennial, CO, and Dr. Wendy Taylor Ellis (Edward II) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Jason Clements (Debbie), Laurie O'Keefe (Mike), Erin Cave, Erica Mogannam (Maher), Richard Taylor Beard, Elisa Ann Johnson (Scott), Edward "Ned" Haskins IV, Luke Ellis, Edward "Trip" Ellis III (Lynn), and Matthew Ellis (Kandise); and 14 great grandchildren.
A private burial took place in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, June 17. The family will remember Annie's eternal, sassy spirit with a celebration of her life in the fall of 2017.
