(MDN News) -- The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a nearly $1 billion bonding bill Wednesday, Feb. 27, to address billions worth of capital projects across the state.
Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, proposed the measure as a way to fund needed projects at the state's college campuses, state parks, mental health facilities and other state facilities.
The measure now moves to the full Senate. Schaefer has endorsed bonding, since interest rates would be lower on new debt than they were when the state issued nearly $600 million worth of bonds in 1982.
