Chuck Borey has resigned from Worth County as Head Football Coach. He said that he wanted to devote more time to being assistant principal at Worth County. Chris Healy will replace him as head football coach and Mark Fletcher will come out of retirement to be his assistant. Both Josh Smiths will also help with the football program. Chris Healy will no longer coach the boys basketball program; Bryce Shafar will coach both boys and girls basketball next year, assisted by Social Studies Teacher Josh Smith.
Borey said that it was not an easy decision for him and that he had spent many nights tossing and turning over the decision, but that making himself a better principal took priority over football. He said that his fondest memory of coaching was being able to coach at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, where the Tigers won their last state championship in 2011. He said that the reason for his success was being able to step into a successful program and learn from Coach Mark Fletcher as well as the support from the community. He said that other factors were being able to coach kids who were willing to work hard and being able to have good assistants.
Borey said that he would spend his time working on ways to become a better administrator. He will retire with over 150 wins and is the winningest football coach in Worth County history. He will be listed on both the all-time coaching victories and all time winning percentage, where he will be third in the entire state. Healy said that the football team would have some big footsteps to fill and that their success this fall will depend on how hard they work this summer.
