U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today released the following statement after the
U.S. Postal Service’s failure to provide answers in a timely manner concerning
its proposed move to five-day delivery:
“Eliminating six-day delivery would impact
families, small businesses and seniors in communities around the country—it’s
not responsible to move forward with this drastic plan without knowing if it
would even make a substantial difference in dollars saved. The Postal Service
has the data we need, and it’s time for officials there to stop dragging their
feet.”
More than six weeks ago, McCaskill requested information from the Postmaster
General and Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) about the Postal Service's claims
that it would realize substantial savings by moving to a five-day delivery
model—claims McCaskill has previously
questioned.
McCaskill received a response from PRC Chairman
Ruth Goldway in a meeting last week, but the PRC reported that it would “need
the Postal Service to provide complete and updated data” in order to give an
accurate estimate of cost savings. The response to McCaskill from the PRC is
available on her website HERE.
