Roy Travis Allee was born on June 7, 1969 in Guthrie Center, Iowa
to Harold and Cheryl (Brown) Allee.
Roy Boy grew up around various horse race tracks, as his
parents and his grandpa and grandma Allee
worked side by side while owning and training thoroughbred
race horses. He was blessed to also have
his grandpa and grandma Brown join them at the track, as
they owned race horses also. So . . .
guess
who was _ _ _ _ _ _ _!
Yes, Roy, I am saying it: Spoiled.
And yes I am getting the last words in on you,
Roy,
so Ha! To his chagrin, some of his
cousins also helped out at the track, which kept Roy’s feathers
ruffled.
When Roy was in school, first
in Sheridan and then Grant City,
he lived with his grandma Allee. When
summertime came, they would pack for the track.
He loved family dinners (for the conversation,
I think???), loved playing cards (as long as he won!), and
loved collecting “funny” (comic) books, which
he started at a young age. He loved his Star Trek and Star
Wars, his gadgets, and oh yes, his
FLASHLIGHTS. Roy loved tinkering with
things and “fixing” them. He also loved researching and diagnosing your
illnesses. He lived for his Saturday
morning cartoons and snow days.
Roy
was very proud of his accomplishments on his high school academic team. He graduated from Worth County R III in 1987. Roy had a thirst for
knowledge and loved to read and research many topics. He went to Northwest Missouri
State for one year before moving to Cleveland, Ohio
to be with his parents at the track.
There he attended a community college.
His family would spend winters back home in Sheridan.
Roy
started a family engraving business called AAA Engraving, which his parents and
grandma Allee helped him keep going.
1995 began a new
phase of life for Roy
as his dad Harold was diagnosed with cancer.
Thus, Roy’s
life of faithfully being at the side of his ailing parents began. He lost his father in March of 1996. Two weeks before we had lost our grandpa
Allee. Roy then would not leave his mother’s
side. He vowed to never leave her side
as her parents were already deceased.
Roy and his mom spent most of their time with her twin
sister Carol and our Gram Allee. Roy spent his time hauling them to do their “trading”
and to doctor’s appointments, which
usually resulted in a KFC stop or if in Grant City, the DQ or Casey’s pizza (yes Roy
loved his pizza in case you didn’t know).
Another favorite thing was taking them to Lori Jo’s to get their hair
done and getting a sandwich from Jonny’s.
Lots of fun was had at Kobbe reunions. Roy
loved researching family ancestry.
Aunt Cheryl’s health would soon start on a downhill slope
until she slipped away in June 2011. Roy kept his promise to be by her side. He had lost his Grandma Allee in March of
2011. During his mom’s stay at WCCC,
Roy made lasting relationships with many
staff members and reconnected with some old friends, all of whom were by his
side as he dealt with the hole that was left in his life due to the loss of his
mother. He then went to live with a very
special couple and their family, as he could not bear going back to his family
home.
His aunt Francey Dowis, along with Rob and Karen Dowis and
family, Connie Dowis, Kirby Dowis and family, Hal and Sharon Dowis and family,
and Bob and Kyla McClain and family as well as other family members want to
thank Alec and Nicole Ware and their families and tell you how amazing you
are. We know Roy
treasured his last days with you. Roy will be laid to rest at a later date in the VanSkyock
addition of the Sheridan cemetery. We will miss his distinct laugh that quaked
through his entire body. Roy Boy you
don’t have to hold the button anymore (one of the many superstitions he
believed in). There will be a buckeye
and a flashlight in your pocket.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Prugh-Dunfee
Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri.
