World Day of Prayer

Submitted by Glenda Wyer
World Day of Prayer began the 1st Friday of the month of March, 1884. Mary Ellen James, a wife of a New York Presbyterian minister and mother of seven, didn't realize the potential and the impact of such a great movement by women. Now, various races in over 170 countries are bonding together in faith, culture, and tradition.

By 1887, women of all faiths were responding to setting aside the 1st Friday in March. Since 1927, it has been known as the Women's Day of Prayer around the world. Each year, there is a theme for the day of fellowship and understanding what bonding together in prayer can accomplish. Televised for the first time by satellite, live from Jerusalem in 1993, over 100 men in television ministries and political leaders got involved. President Reagan kicked it off that year in California. It was no longer just a day for women, but for the entire world to join in prayer.

This year's theme is, "How many loaves have you?" Do we have faith that God can produce more than enough to provide for HIS children? May Worth County join in prayer for this nation and others to find peace for all Friday, March 4th.
