The Northeast Nodaway School Board, at its regular meeting Thursday, voted to rehire principals Jason McDowell and Luke Cox with two year contracts for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years. Both votes were unanimous.
The board also voted to accept the resignation of Tyler Schmidt, the Technology Director, who will be going to Savannah.
The board voted to allow the school to hold the prom this year at Tri-Meadows in Conception at a cost of $400.
Reports were heard about the school. District enrollment is at 215 and attendance is 96%.
The PTO hold their annual 5th & 6th Grade Basketball Tournament and raised $3,000. The PTO is selling trash bags as a fundraiser.
Heidi Beatty of the CTA presented a thank you card to the board, signed by CTA members. They are sponsoring the Missouri Read-In Week next month, in which junior high and high school students will read to elementary students during the week. The week before last, they provided treats to the teachers and staff each day.
DeAnn Redden of the Booster Club reported that the 3rd & 4th Grade Basketball Tournament raised $3,200. The soup supper for Homecoming raised another $832. Senior Night was held during the South Holt game. The Booster Club provided the seniors with a blanket that marked all of the activities they have participated in throughout their high school career. They also purchased the senior banners that are hanging in the high school gym and will give them to the seniors when they graduate.

Obituary -- Jay Shipley 1925-2020
Jay Barker Shipley, age 94, Grant City, Missouri died Friday, February 21, 2020 at the Mosaic Medical Center, Albany, Missouri.
Jay was born May 21, 1925 at the family home in Isadora, Missouri. He was the son of the late Ivor and Edna (Barker) Shipley.
Jay attended and graduated from Grant City High School in Grant City.
He was united in marriage to Ilene Nicholson on May 21, 1950 in Maryville, Missouri. To this union two boys were born Dale and John. Jay and Ilene spent most of their married life in Isadora, where they were engaged in farming.
Jay was of the Christian Faith and attended church regularly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ilene (2014), two brothers, Kelton and Neil Shipley and two sisters, Leota Batt and Maxine Wheatly.
Jay’s survivors include two sons, John R. (Martha) Shipley, St. Joseph, Missouri, Dale E. Shipley, Kansas City, Missouri, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his companion Donna Nickason, Grant City.

Shamrock Boys Race Past Worth County
North Harrison’s boys raced past Worth County 82-50 last Tuesday to spoil their Senior Night. The Shamrocks scored early and often in the game, turning back a Worth County rally in the second quarter before putting the game out of reach in the third quarter. This game marks the second time the Tigers have struggled in back to back games; they lost to Princeton 78-36 on the second of back to back games earlier this year.
Playing in their last home games as Tigers were Jaxon Anderson, Bob Baker, Hayden Holmes, and Zayne Swope.
Both teams started off hot, scoring six points in the first 2:32 of the game. But then Kaden Koch got a three point play which seemed to spark the Shamrocks and make it 9-6. Aydan Gladstone cut it to 9-8, but then Brett Emig hit from the high post, Koch struck again, and Brett Emig scored in transition to make it 15-8 with 3:30 left in the quarter. Koch continued to carry the Shamrocks on his back throughout the first quarter, getting 13 points in the period as North Harrison led 21-12.
Last year, North Harrison led much of the way in Eagleville before Worth County used a big third quarter to pull in front and lead for the rest of the game. It looked like something similar might happen as Alex Rinehart hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key and added a transition basket to make it 21-17 to start the second. Wade Briggs hit a 3-pointer and Brett Emig added a free throw to make it 25-17, but then Aydan Gladstone kicked it out to Jackson Runde for three and Aydan Gladstone scored from the baseline to make it 25-22 at the 5:13 mark.
But then North Harrison responded with back to back jacks as Cruz Ury skipped one to Brett Emig for three, Kaden Koch kicked one out to Steven Willhite for another three, and Brett Emig added a steal, and North Harrison was back up double digits at 33-22 with 4:25 left. North Harrison continued to pull away for the remainder of the first half, leading 43-29 at the break, beating Worth County up and down the floor at will.
The Shamrocks continued to pull away in the third quarter as the bottom dropped out for Worth County. They started the period on a 16-2 run, and by the time the dust had settled just 4:08 into the period, North Harrison was in front 59-31. Willhite had 8 points in the period and Koch added another 7 as the Shamrocks led 64-35 after three.
Alex Rinehart had 19 for Worth County after getting 34 the previous night. Jackson Runde had 15, Aydan Gladstone 12, and Jaxon Anderson and Zayne Swope each with 2.

Worth County Rehires Principals, Hires Three New Personnel

Gavin Shoush Gets 6th Place Medal at State Wrestling Meet
Albany & Worth County qualified two wrestlers, Justin Dye (Heavyweight) and Gavin Shoush (106 Pound), to state this year. Both competed in the state tournament last weekend.
In the first round, Gavin Shoush was beaten by Josh Payne (Lexington) by fall at the 1:07 mark of their match. Justin Dye lost a 4-3 decision to Zane Renfro (Richmond) in his first round match.
Both proceeded to the Wrestlebacks. In the first round of Wrestlebacks, Gavin Shoush won by fall over Robert Silvey (Versailles) to survive. Justin Dye was pinned by Jordan Walker-Wright (Steam Academy @ McCluer South-Berkeley) at the 2:46 mark of their match to end his time at state. Dye finished his season at 22-11, having come a long ways in just his second year of wrestling for the Albany/Worth County cooperative. He will return next year.
Shoush continued on his way, defeating Blayze Mccullough (El Dorado Springs) by Major Decision, winning 16-7. He then defeated Clancey Woodward (Mid-Buchanan) in a close match, winning 3-2.

In the fifth place match, Shoush lost to Connor Green (North Callaway) by fall 1:27 into the match. Shoush ended his campaign with a 23-6 record and the 6th Place Medal.

Barbara Anne Rowe was born August 9, 1938 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Robert and Gladys (Whitehead) Beattie. She passed away on February 20, 2020 at her home in Sheridan, Missouri at the age of 81.
Barbara was united in marriage to Kenneth Dale Rowe on October 31, 1958 in Suffern, New York. Barbara worked in food service for Department of Correction in St. Joseph, Missouri for many years. She also owned and operated 3 of her own restaurants through the years. Barbara loved art and loved to draw. She attended Sheridan Christian Church and was active in the Willing Workers Women’s Group. She loved to sing in church and played the harmonica.
Preceding Barbara in death were her husband Kenneth, parents and sister Gladys Millen.
She is survived by sons: William and Robert Rowe, both of St. Joseph, Missouri, daughters: Ramona Schneider of Oregon, Missouri, Gladys Rowe of Maryville, Missouri and Tina Land of Sheridan, Missouri; sister Mary Gesner, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 24, 2020 at the Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services.
