Tiger Football Seeks to Build Skill Positions

Worth County is seeking to rebuild at the skill positions as they seek to contend for another state title this year. Last year, they went 10-3, falling to Mound City 36-32 in the State Championship Game. The Tigers will have a new foe in Orrick. In the GRC West, Pattonsburg will still be solid, as will Stanberry. Albany is a power that is on the rise. South/Nodaway-Holt will showcase a strong passing attack.

Worth County has 24 players out this year, with 15 from Worth County and 9 from NEN. This is the most players from Northeast who have gone out for football.

The line is solid this year, with Austin Welch and Justin Dye anchoring two of the line spots. Dylan Wilmes and Auston Pride were seeing time at the other line spot last Tuesday.

At quarterback, Aydan Gladstone seems to be the starter, although three other players could see time. Braxton Hightshoe, a freshman, showed a lot of skill despite his small size, while Alex Rinehart can throw the ball deeper than anyone. Dylan McIntyre could also see some time.

Andrew Alarcon was hitting the holes hard as a runningback and looks to have one slot secured. Alex Rinehart could see some time at wide receiver or runningback. Jackson Runde could see some time at receiver, as could Jaxon Anderson.

Defensively, the Tigers are solid at the defensive line, where Dye and Welch will step in. Jaxon Anderson returns as a pass rushing force. In pass coverage, Wyatt Craven showed some skill, jumping a pass that could have been a pick six in a game.

Chris Healy returns as head coach along with assistants Jon Adwell, Will Coleman, and Josh Smith. New to the staff will be Hadley Roberts (no relation to the Pattonsburg coaches), who will also teach PE at Worth County this year.

On Monday, Worth County went to the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice at Missouri Western and watched. They then met Chris Jones of the Chiefs, who gave a talk. They then met Griffons Head Coach Matt Williamson, who gave another talk and gave them a tour of the facility.
