Jayneigh Lawson was crowned Little Miss Hopkins and Caspian Halvin was crowned Little Mr. Hopkins Thursday to start the Hopkins Picnic. They were crowned by the royalty from last year, Arianna Owens-Sportsman and Gannon Stricker. Other participants were Sylvia Rolofson, Marin Alexander, Brysha Allen, and Landon Turner.
Contestants were interviewed and two judges from outside the community were brought in to decide on the winners.
If this group is any indication, the kids of Hopkins will grow up to be healthy eaters. Three of them listed watermelons as their favorite food, while three others listed Joy Wok, a Chinese restaurant in Maryville across from Wal-Mart, as their favorite restaurant.
Halvin, the winner on the boys side, was totally comfortable in front of the microphone, telling avid stories about himself. He told one story about a huge bullfrog who found its way into the house and hopped up 17 flights of steps before finally being caught. He talked about going to the river with his dad and finding geodes and other rocks.
Jayneigh, like Caspian, doesn’t know a stranger and was totally comfortable in front of the microphone. Thankfully, she knows not to accept a ride from a stranger even if they offer candy. She has two dogs, snails, and even a hermit crab named “Shelly.” She said she wanted to be a vet someday.
