Obituary -- Marynell Richards 1928-2019

Marynell Richards, 91, passed away August 3, 2019 at the Worth County Care and
Rehabilitation Center in Grant City, Missouri.   She was born on March 30, 1928 in North Platte, Nebraska to Robert and Grace McSpadden.  She is survived by her younger brother Richard (Carol) McSpadden; four children Ron (Rhonda) Richards, Brenda (Darell) Biddle, Janell (Dean) Smith, and Barbara (Mark) Manion; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great,great grandchild, several nephews & nieces.

Marynell is preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Dallas Richards, her son Brian and two grandchildren,  James & Phillip Smith.

Although Marynell graduated from High School in Sidney, Nebraska, she claims Gering, Nebraska as home.  She spent most of her youth in Gering.  She attended Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska and majored as a librarian.  Marynell married Dallas Richards, a young sailor returning from World War II on  June 29, 1947.  They lived in western Nebraska until 1965 when they moved to Grant City, Missouri.

After her husband Dallas passed in March 1977, Marynell worked several small jobs but her heart was in the library and she worked in the school library as well as the city as the Grant City librarian for over 22 years.  She spent many summers with youth reading programs for the local children and students and would also read to the residents of both the  Worth County Care and Rehabilitation Center and Orilla’s Way.

She was a 73 year member of Eastern Star, holding District & State office positions.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Grant City and served as the President for UMW.  Also served as a board member for the Grant City Senior Center, Athenaeum, Sunshine club and the VFW Auxiliary.

Visitation will be August 8th, 2019 at 1 pm followed by  Funeral services at 2 pm at Prugh Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, MO.  Interment will be at the Grant City Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Worth County Care & Rehabilitation Center (WCCC).
