Obituary -- Marilyn Ruckman 1926-2018

Marilyn Ruckman, 91, of Albany, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018.
Marilyn was born, May 13, 1926 in Maysdorf, Wyoming, the daughter of Austin E. and Helen (Sandal) Jay. After many years traveling the West, the Jay family settled in Worth, MO. She met Alton Ruckman at a ballgame in Denver, MO and they were united in marriage on March 15, 1947 in Worth County, Missouri.

Marilyn is survived by, two sons, two daughters and their families: Rae Ann Ruckman, Albany; Jan Ruckman, Albany; and granddaughters Morgan Hughes, Kansas City, MO; Kieara Hughes, Albany; Ryan Ruckman and wife Ciarra Ruckman, Anthem, AZ, and grandson, Dr. Case Ruckman, Albany; granddaughter Alexandra Ruckman, Kansas City, MO: Jay Ruckman, Los Lunas, NM; and grandson Cole Ruckman, Albany; three sisters: Dr. Joan Jones, Framingham, MA; Kathryn Olney, Bonney Lake, WA; and Jean Verdin, Chesterfield, MO; brother, Donald Jay, Grant City; two sister-in-laws, Avis Parman, Albany and Joan Rupee, Kansas City, MO. Along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Austin and Helen Jay, Grant City, MO, husband Alton Ruckman, Albany, MO, sister Loreen Hughes, Denver, MO, brother Dr. Austin Jay, Kirksville, MO and daughter Renn Ann Ruckman, New Hampton, MO.

Marilyn was a long time educator at the grade school and high school levels. She was a graduate of Grant City High School with honors and then she received her B.S. degree from Northwest MO State University, her M.S. degree in Elementary Education and her M.S. degree in Guidance Counseling from Northwest MO State University with honors. Marilyn was an educator for 27 years in the Albany RIII school system in Albany, MO and 12 years in the Earlimart elementary school system in Earlimart, California.

The Ruckman household was a revolving door of friends and family. Marilyn created an environment where everyone felt welcome. There was always food on the stove for the family and the extended family that she dearly loved. May we all strive to emulate her life well lived.

She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Eastern Star and other civic organizations.

Funeral Services were held 2:00 PM Friday, March 9 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany with burial in the Miller Cemetery, Denver. Marilyn loved to read and was her wish that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Albany Carnegie Library in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.
