Sheridan Ordinance Calls for Water Shutoff In Event of Delinquent Taxes

An ordinance passed by the City of Sheridan during the administration of Bud Allee calls for water shutoff in the event of delinquent taxes. The ordinance, Ordinance #95, reads as follows:

Subject – Tax Collection.
Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Sheridan concerning tax collection the following rules and procedures will apply.
1.  All city taxes are due December 31st of the current year.
2. All taxes are deemed delinquent January 1st of the succeeding year.


Penalties:

1.  All penalties as prescribed by state law will apply January 1st of the succeeding year for which the taxes have been deemed delinquent.
2. On February 1st of the year the taxes are delinquent, those taxpayers receiving water utilities from the city without any further notification that service will be discontinued.
3. If after one year the taxes remain delinquent, such legal options as are available will be employed to effect collection.


Exceptions:

It shall remain within the power of the City Council to grant waivers and exceptions. If a delinquent taxpayer thinks that they have just cause for special consideration, hardship, and etc., they must appear at a regular meeting of the City Council and state their case to be given consideration.
